Has Saban changed his message to the players?

Does anyone else think that Coach Saban sounded different this past weekend?

Usually you hear him talk about guys executing the gameplan and doing the things they know to do to be successful, sort of like a "we'll win if everyone does their job" mentality.

This past weekend, however, he said “I told our players that the plan we had for them, ordinary men couldn’t get it done. We needed them to be extraordinary.” on more than one occasion. I feel like I've heard CNS talk quite a bit and I don't think I've ever heard him say something like that. Does this signify a different message to the team going forward? Maybe a little bit more of an emotional boost instead of the usual businesslike attitude?

It's Saban. He just wanted them to be extraordinary in the way they did their job.

He does give them emotional boosts in the games he thinks they need it.

I think after 2013 and the team being flat/tight in both the AU and OU games he changed his delivery last year. He came out and defended the team after lackluster 14-13 win over Arky and a loss to OM. He is doing the same this year, with the I believe in this team mantra. I think he is learning that an emotionless, business like approach needs a little spark and emotion sometimes with 18-19 year old kids and it seems both teams have responded to it. Last year's team was really a 9-3 type team and they went 11-1 and won the SECC. This team should also be a 9-3 type team with our schedule and it wouldn't surprise me if they overachieve a bit just like last year's team did.

This team and every other sports team plays better when they are having fun. The business like approach has it's place but the kids are playing a game and need to have fun while playing it.

Nah, he knew this was an enormous game and the first with the season on the line. Seems like it was a good way to motivate and challenge the team all at once.

This x1000. He is not perfect by any means, but everything he does and says is calculated. He has never really been at a single place for this long, so he is still evolving but the constant is his ability to motivate his team, when they have a clear goal in front of them.

I also think that the past two seasons have really reinforced how much he cares about his players. When he talked about getting choked up when Nysewander scored or the way he handled Blake Sims and Coker just shows how much he really does appreciate and love his players.

I really liked seeing him shake Jake's hand after the game. I know that meant alot to Jake, especially coming off that performance.

I think he said what he said the way he said it so everyone would argue over his pronunciation of extraordinary.

I thought he sounded like Les Miles this weekend. I was ready for him to pick up a football and hump it while eating grass.

Wow, I didn't know he said that about Nysewander. That's pretty awesome.

I thought about the handshake with Coker too, when I posted this. Seems to me like he's shifting a little to the motivational side of coaching.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think that's been part of Urban Meyer's success at UF and OSU, the fact that he makes guys want to win for him, not just instill fear in them.

But then again, what do I know?

Saban is great at pushing the buttons he thinks his team needs. The ultimate coach/psychologist.

I really don't feel good about our mind set going into this weekend. Last week all we heard is we were dead in the ground and we played to that emotion. This week, I feel like it might be the opposite. Also, normally, Saban will make a comment or 2 that he thought the team had a good week of practice and we haven't heard any such statements. I do think we will win, but it would not surprise me if we hear about a lot of mistakes after this game.

We will not come out and play with the same emotion this week as we did against UGA. Most any team, including Bama, comes out flat after an emotional win/loss. I expect a game with a bit of sloppiness, but one that we control late and get the win. That's all we really need heading into a massive showdown with TAMU next week.

actually, he copied the master. He used a letter that Coach Bryany had written to a recruit in the 70s as his guide of what to say last weekend.

Even from the grave, Coach Bryant can out coach Richt.

UF sure sucked it up against OM last week after their emotional win over UT.
