Has our super easy SEC Basketball schedule helped our NCAAT hopes?

Some complaining on the SEC Rant, actually got me thinking about it. And the more and more I think about it, the more I realize that our SEC schedule has actually sucked arse in terms of us making it to the NCAAT.

First off, playing these bottom tier teams can ultimately only hurt us. At best, a win stabilizes our RPI. Another thing is the BS stall-ball offense we usually run keeps games pretty close whether or not we play a good team, which only hurts with this schedule. Also, of the only 4 solid teams (Mizzou, UF, OM, UK with Noel) we have played, 3 (Mizzou, UF, and OM) of them are on the road. We also have had some of the shittiest timing in playing 3 of those games. We played Mizzou right before Bowers goes down and their subsequent SEC collapse began. We played UK right before Noel went down, which would have actually ended up being a quality win if Noel doesn't get hurt. And now UF gets their injured players back coming off of a loss.

Sure this schedule has certainly helped us in the SEC standings, but IMO as far as making the NCAAT goes its hurt us bad. What do y'all think?

I don't think so. I wouldn't want like a murderer's row with Fla, Mizz, Kentucky, etc all twice because we aren't good enough to win a lot of those. However, I'd much rather have had a return home game from Mizzou, Fla, or even Ole Miss than playing Miss St twice. The schedule has hurt our RPI, for example losing a game at Florida isn't any worse for the RPI than beating Auburn at home. We also haven't had a ton of chances for quality wins and the way it worked out most of those were on the road (only games with Fla, Mizz, and Ole Miss are away from home).

All that said, if we took care of shite teams like Mercer, Tulane, and @Auburn it really wouldn't matter because we'd probably be in the NCAAt anyway.

Agreed. Honestly if we just win one of those 3 we'd be fine. This isn't meant as an excuse. Just an observation.

Our loss to Florida, no matter how bad, will help our RPI way more than the Auburn win. Kind of a screwed up flaw in the RPI system.

There's no probably about it. That eliminates any bad losses, save maybe Dayton, and would have Bama solidly in as probably a number 7 or 8 seed. It's frustrating to think based on the schedule Bama could be sitting at Number 1 in the SEC and solidly in the tourney if they had just finished games against Tulane, Mercer, UT, LSU, and gotten a good bounce vs. Cincy. If only...

I actually physically ACHE when I think of the idea of the Florida game being here in Tuscaloosa. No doubt it would be the biggest home game since Georgetown. As far as our chances of winning? All bets would be off, our crowd can be as big and bad as any in the nation.... provided they show up.

Wishful thinking, hopefully we'll be in a good situation next year when they come here, but it would be nice to relive this

This is what is so frustrating. There is just no excuse for losing to these teams. One of them? Maybe. But three losses to truly terrible teams? Just inexcusable.
