I hope he has success at Georgia, I'm a fan of his, like I'm sure most of you are. His contributions to UA since he has been here have been huge, and it is sad to see him go. But, he got a great job and I'm happy for him. He'll never know our names, but I figure maybe you all agree with me that the only appropriate send off comes down to one simple word:

Thanks.

Agreed. He has done a great job at Alabama and the stars have aligned for this to happen. Hope he kicks some arse.

Thank guys. Its me Kirby. I have been walking as one of you all this time. It helps me with my motivation and keeps me grounded and in touch with the little people. I appreciate the gratitude and glad you will be pulling for me to out recruit Saban and to build up Georgia as the best program in the SEC. Go Dawgs arf! arf! arf!

Sincerely,

Coach Smart.

I assume he will not coach the playoffs and go straight to UGA after the SECCG?

Agree with everything but disagree with this to an extent. I care only about a strong Alabama.

I wouldn't expect any other outcome. It's a business. He's been put in charge somewhere else, hes got work to do there

I would be surprised if he doesn't finish out the year. He would be the first among many coordinators getting their first time jobs to do such.

Off the top of my head McElwain still coached in 2012 after getting the Colorado St job. And Herman stayed and finished out the playoffs with Ohio St last year after taking the Houston job.

The dead period in recruiting will start like 1 week after the SEC championship game and doesn't end up until after the playoffs. So it's not like he is missing out on recruiting or anything.

Neither Colorado nor Houston had big fish to recruit. Smart will

That one week is absolutely crucial. With their QB flirting elsewhere, it is imperative that Smart get started ASAP or he is going to be in a world of hurt. Imagine Smart, as a defensive guy, attempting to have success with any of UGA's current QBs.

Smart leaving before the playoffs is in way helpful to this team. It's not like he's a position coach. Hopefully this won't affect the defense too much.

Hopefully it won't affect the SEC Championship game. Maybe it will motivate the D to play lights out one last time for Kirby.

This is Saban's plan to get Brent Venables from Clemson to start after the SECCG.

If this happens and he leaves in the middle of a title run, what he has done for us be damned, I will drive to Athens and take a steaming shite on his windshield. Period.

You dont quit in the middle of a title run
