Let's hope Byrne has his guy and he can be successful.

Johnson would be an unreal hire

We'd have an athletic department full,of Johnsons

I know we were terrible this year, but I figured he'd get a pass this year regardless. What's the deal?

He was hired at FIU last offseason.

They were 30-31 in 2015 and 29-29 last year. This year he led them to a 31-25 regular season.

That's minimal improvement at best, nothing that can be deemed statistically significant.

% Games Won
2015: 49%
2016: 50%
2017: 55%

Overall: 51%

This was his first year at FIU. He had been at Alabama State for six seasons prior to this.

I'm shocked.. How often do first year coaches get the boot.. Especially at Bama without major infractions..I doubt a lot

It is a rare occurrence anywhere, but Goff can't blame anyone but himself. He alienated the team, fans, alumni, admin. He broke rules repeatedly. And probably LEAST importantly, he lost and lost big. Take his same record and give it to a first year Bama coach who was of the same ilk as any other coach on campus: Avery, Saban, Murphy, Duckworth and there might have been some grumbling but there would have been no question of another year. But when you act like you aren't a part of the Alabama family and the rules of sport and humanity don't apply to you, don't expect much sympathy when you are asked to leave.

A quick layoff is not unprecedented in event of a complete dumpster fire.

Goff was terminated without cause. Alabama will be responsible for the remainder of his base salary unless he accepts another job in baseball. Goff signed a five-year contract that ran through the 2021 season for $450,000 annually with a base salary of $265,000.

If he does not accept another job in baseball, he will be owed $1.06 million over the next four years. He was due to make $1.8 million in total compensation if he had coached through the duration of his contract.

I'd say it worth a million or so for him to NOT coach Alabama Baseball.

That would be an amazing career day exhibit.
