For the older Bama fans on the board...who was better?

I assume at least a few of you have seen them in person or on TV, be it NFL or college.
So tell me....who was the better Bama legend in your kind?
Joe Namath or Ken Stabler?
I'm sure both of them drank enough alcohol to fill up a few Olympic pools in their lifetime. On the outside looking in...I guess I'd prefer Joe. Dude is the Axl Rose of football.

Pure arm talent, it's Namath by a ton. Go look at Namath's films. His release is as cat quick as Marino's.
And I'm speaking as one who had Snake as my avatar for a good while, but Namath was revolutionary.

Looking back I would say Stabler for a longer NFL career.
But my Parents talked a lot about how exciting Bama was with Joe Willie at QB.

If Namath had been healthy (knees), there's no telling how good he could've been, college or pro. He was probably the best athlete Alabama ever had on campus (maybe with the exception of Charles Cleveland).

I forget what Book it is but Howard Schnellinberger(sp)tells the story of his "Recruiting"
of Namath.
Coach Bryant basically told him not to come back without Namath.
He was forced to stay longer than he had packed or had money for because Namath was basically just being himself.
After writing several bad checks and after about 5 days he was invited to Dinner at Namath's home where his Mother had made Joe's favorite,Chicken and Dumplings.
After Dinner Namath's Mother came out with Joe's suitcase and told Schnellenberger(sp) to take him with him.
When Namath 1st arrived at the practice field,Coach Bryant had him come up the tower to talk.
Everyone was saying "Who the heck is that"?
Schnellenberger told them it was their new QB.

He failed to score high enough on his college board tests to get into Maryland, and somebody (can't remember who) on the Maryland coaching staff contacted Coach Bryant about him....the rest is history.

Coach Bryant did say that about Charles. Would have like to have seen him as a receiver, but he chose to play only baseball and football but could have played all 3.
To OP I have to say Namath

I saw Cleveland play them all in high school. He'd line up on one play as QB and on the next as a wide receiver. At nearly 6'6" and running like a damn deer, the other QB would just throw it as long and high as he could and Charles would chase it down, jump up and literally take the ball away from the DB. To say that he was a man playing with boys is a gross understatement. Oh yeah, he turned down a Cincinnati Reds pro baseball offer (was a high 90's mph pitcher) to go to Alabama on a basketball scholarship where he was the first 3 time all-SEC player.
