I believe he could have provided a spark in the 2nd half against A&M.

Do y'all think Saban will utilize him as a change up in a game where Bama leads by 14 or less?

No. He has been shaky at some points. In a tough game he could make big mistakes. Jalenhas come through in big games

If Tua comes in at non-garbage time we have already tried all other options

I think it would be nice to see him come in on certain situations, just to get him some more PT. Maybe have a package for him.

Doubt it happens, but I really think Tua has an arm we haven't seen under Saban.

He's a frosh with limited experience. They make mistakes that I don't think saban wants to risk

Probably not, and that's understandable. From a fan's perspective though, you want to see more of him and see him grow as a freshman for the future.

Kinda why I hope we win more games convincingly. Not just to secure the W, but to see the backups get more PT and get experience for next year. Alabama loses a shite ton of starters after this season.

No Jalen is the starter and unless he is hurt or has a meltdown Tua is the trash time QB.

If we would have put Tua in deep in the 3Q, when the momentum swung against us,with 110K hostile fans on their feet, it would have been a disaster. Chavis would go for the jugular, we would likely have some quick three and outs, wound up deeper in the hole, and you have destroyed the starter's confidence.

I know you are trolling but come on.....

Glad you aren't a coach.

Our first two drives of the 3rd quarter were a TD and a fumble the next play after a drop. What about this says that pulling your QB is a good idea?

He holds the ball way too long and has to scramble all the time

Wha?

If you have two quarterbacks, you have none. Swapping them out like that seems like it would be more disruptive than anything. I hope he gets some time in the Arkansas game though.

Trivia question for you, sonny. Who scored the go ahead touchdown for Alabama in the 4th quarter of the 1973 Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame?

Bear Bryant laughs at you.

Teets always let the #2 QB get one series in the 2nd qtr. Brodie took us down to score on quite a few of those.

He has already, I don't know I don't think that is the best idea though to randomly throw him in. If we need a long drive and are down and Hurts hasn't been making it happen - sure that is fine.

But if you do that without an established plan in place, it could start up the whole qb controversy and end up causing more distractions and harm than good for this season.

I personally hope he continues to get experience and develop, but Hurts is who I want starting this season. He certainly has shortcomings in the passing game, but he is one of the best runners in the SEC and that is a huge part of our offense. He makes plays, the team seems to respond to him and doesn't turn the ball over.

Also Hurts didn't have a good game throwing, there is blame to go around on the whole offense but it starts and stops with the qb. I'm curious if there were receivers open downfield as he was quicker to tuck and run this week than I remember him being.

Oline had a rough game as well so he probably got happy feet in the first big time road game of the season - don't think throwing a true freshman qb into that mix would have been a good idea.

Again if Foster doesn't drop that first down pass then fumble the next play we are on our way to a 27-3 or 31-3 lead early in the third. Likely Tua would have gone in.

Not to mention Foster dropping a perfectly thrown TD pass. Rewatching some of the highlights only confirms for me that Hurts had a decent game, and our WRs had an awful game.

Edit: Damn I forgot how awful Foster was this game. Stone hands like crazy.

Has the wheels to do anything though, but no hands.

Let's not forget Hurts had a TD dropped by Ridley against Vandy, Ruggs against Ole Miss, and Foster against A&M.

Hurts has to go through some of his progressions and learn to put more touch on his deep balls, but for anyone saying he hasn't progressed hasn't watched Alabama at all this year.

Agreed, while i certainly would have hoped he had progessed a bit more, he is a much better passer than he was at the end of last year.

He has plenty to work on - move through his progression better / quicker, let the ball fly a bit quicker, learn to lead the receiver on the mid-range / crossing patterns and to throw with a bit more touch on the move and on the deep balls - but he has improved and IF he actually learns to the above at a high level, he will be nearly unstoppable given his running ability.
