Does Tua compete for the starting job this offseason?

I'm not saying we need to go back down the freshman road again, but how do they compare throwing the football/running? I'm hoping Jalen takes strides and becomes a deadly passer/runner but it would be nice to know what Tua'S skill set is like.

He'll compete, but he won't win it.

I would definitely play it as an open competition ala Chip Kelly. He had Darron Thomas each year with Bryan Bennett always at his heels ready to steal the job. Then Bennett himself gets the job stolen by Marcus Mariota.

Either it pushes Hurts to get better, or it gives Tua a shot to unseat him...

I hope they both play some next year and we have a package for both. Nobody could be a worse passer than Hurts.

Just based off high school tape, Tua throws a much better ball. Of course it all changes when you have SEC defenses coming at you, but with the way Jalen regressed the 2nd half of the season I would be shocked if Tua doesn't make a run at it.

the worst part is.... damn, if Hurts could throw, he'd be a Heisman contender next year.

Can anyone name any elite NFL qb that started as a true freshman? Of course not. Because almost nobody ever starts a true freshman. The difference in game speed at qb is more dramatic than any other position. But under the circumstances, he did better than anyone could've expected.

Two hall of fame guys, and two honorable mentions. In ten years, when they look at stats. Where is Hurts on that list?

I haven't bashed him this year, and probably won't start for several more months. Just my opinion.

yeah i refrain from bashing him as well because he has exceeded my expectations for what i thought he would do this year. he will put in a lot of work this offseason to expand his skillset!

Have you or anyone else seen anything that indicates Hurts wont put in work this offseason?

No doubt he will work hard, but will it be enough to improve as much as he needs to? With all that we are losing on defense, we need for Hurts to take a more active role if we are going to make it back to the title

Quarterbacks improve every year. Will the OL improve? Will we start calling plays with slant routes again? Maybe if we did more of that, the defense would have been able to defend Clemson last night.

Slant routes? Easy to blame coaches but they didn't feel confident in Jalen completing passes and how can you blame them? Saying he sucks as a passer is an understatement. This spring and summer will be huge for both Jalen and Tua.

Not all qbs improve every year. If another year is all it takes, then Bateman would have been the qb this year.
