If it wasn't for Manziel, this team would be widely accepted as being in the same leaue as 95 Nebraska or 01 Miami.

I hold 2011 Bama and LSU in that regard. But yeah, you may be on to something. That offense was dominating folks on the ground once it got going, AJ had (imo) the best QB season anyone has ever had at Bama, and the defense was nasty. Wasn't 2011 nasty, but it was up there.

2012 Offense
2011 Defense
Leigh Tiffin at K
JK Scott at P
Javier Arenas returning kicks/punts
Kiffin at OC

That dream team would be nice to see.

The perception of the 2012 team changes drastically if we run Eddie Lacy down at the goal line against A&M.

Nah 2012 was the year we played ND in the championship....I think we all remember Lacy in that game. He was just on the bench.

what about them? Fantastic, incredible team with a hellacious defense. But they won a boring 10 point game over a 4 loss boston college, and needed a damn near miracle to escape VT by 2 points. They are ONE OF the best teams assembled, but they aren't close to the GOAT.

The closest game 95 NU had all year was 14 points. They played 4 teams ranked in the top 10 with the closest of those being a 23 point win. Their margins of victory over top 10 teams that year were 24, 23, 38, and 38. And let's not gloss over that 95 UF team they embarrassed for the title. They were 12-0 coming in, wiht their closest game being an 11 point win over #6 FSU. Every other game they were raping people. In fact many UF fans will tell you 95 was one of their best teams ever. And they didn't even belong on the same field with nebraska.

'12 bama was really, really good. But even if they had beaten aTm, they still wouldn't be close to 95 nebraska.

to be honest, with the way the game has evolved and training, conditioning and just speed and power, the 2012 Bama team vs Nebraska ripped from 20 years ago would be a very interesting battle.

Besides, they'd be close by virtue of being easily in the top 10 if they finished undefeated, obliterating their championship victim and sending pretty much the whole 2 deep to the League.

ehhhh I don't think it works like that. 20 years is a long time for things to evolve, like you said. I mean, today's hapless vanderbilt teams would run roughshod over the powerhouses from the 1920s, things are just too different. I think it's better to compare teams against the rest of the field in the era they played in. And to be honest, seeing the moderate success than GT and Ga Southern have had running the option with mediocre athletes...when you factor in NU had far FAR better offensive talent, far better coaching, and an actually pretty stout defense...I think they would still be a force in today's game.

But going back to what I said earlier, when you compare the elite teams of today against their peers, and compare 95 NU to its peers, it's really no contest. That NU team barely ever broke a sweat all season, and absolutely demolished the best teams they faced.

'11 Bama is more comparable to them than '12 BAMA imo.

Their only close game all year happened to be against another team with a top 10 all time defense. Only gave up more than 14 points once all year

'12 bama was great but the team from '11 is the best we've ever had

Agreed on a lot of points... but the Ga Southern game in 2011 and I don't think we've played Georgia Tech in years.

I wasn't necessarily pointing out Ga Southern because they had played yall...I more so meant that a quirky system like that that isn't seen much these days has proven to be moderately successful, by teams like GAS and GT. Also noting that those teams don't have even a quarter the amount of talent that NU had. NU also had a defense too.

Agreed completely. That LSU team would have been known as one of the greatest of all time just look at all the teams they beat....but they didn't win the championship. They would have won it any other year imo.

People seem to remember 6-9 when thinking of 2011 Alabama and think we were just a dominant defense with an okay offense....We actually had a really damn good offense though. Obviously the defense was the main strength of the team though.

Agreed though. If you want to try and compare them to other all time great teams I'd probly use '11 team.
