I mean, it's Crimson and White. Should we make it part of the fandom? I mean, the every Barner with a license has to have "ALABAMA" on his plate, should we add more nagging reminders of whose state this is?

Not unless UA had input on the Scottish flag, which in part inspired the state flag.

The flag is inspired by the Confederate Battle Flag. It may be based upon the colors of Co. F, 7th Alabama Cavalry.
Seems like William C. Oates introduced the bill to make that the flag and added some bit about it being patterned after the Confederate flag to his introduction of the bill. During the Civil War, he had commanded the Alabama troops that pushed 20th Maine off the Round Top at Gettysburg, precipitating the federal bayonet charge that won their colonel the CMH.
Here's the ADAH's bit on it.
And, no, the UA colors came from the Corps of Cadets (I don't care what media relations says now, they're lying [go back an look at what they printed about it 40 years ago and you'll find a different story than the one they're selling now]). The Crimson was supposed to be for the blood of UA cadets shed in defense of the school when Croxton captured the campus (battle happened around ten Hoor hall area). White for the cadet trousers and gray for the coats.
