If we could go back and replay that game or when we play them next year:

Play Tim Williams and Rashaan Evans. They are the future of our team. Fastest pair of edge guys Ive seen in a long time.

Use Amari vertically 90 percent of the time instead of in traffic. Iso for Coop is gold.

Change the type of defense we ran. the 3-4 against them is not going to be successful. 4-1-6 is ideal.

Tim Williams, Robinson, Allen, Evans on the line
Ragland at LB
LC (box), Perry, Geno at safety. Not Geno at cover corner
Cyrus, EJ (needs help with in-game coaching), and Brown

Im disappointed that after countless times of EJ letting everyone get behind him, that the coaching staff did not figure out the reason for it. EJ is physical and talented, there is no reason he should not have bounced back. Bad in-game defensive coaching IMO

Against these fast QBs Saban wants to contain them like Tebow in 2009. Tebow wasn't fast and couldn't pass.

We need to blitz the corners from whichever side the speedsweep is heading, destroying that option and if the sweep is not in order the blitzer can pursue the QB. Then the linebackers can stuff the middle and pursue outside as needed.

That is what UGA did and it worked, we also did that a bunch in the 2nd half.

looks to me like we are still running the same defense against this offense that we've been running ever since saban got here and gus showed up. jeremy pruitt and ga shut 'em down, but we cant run that type defense, nah. we gotta give up 600 yards and 44 points. because we are just to hardheaded to admit someone else devised a defense that works better than ours. if we do end up playing oregon, they'll put 1k yards and 65 points on us. smh

We stopped their run, they only had 3.7 yards per carry. They had 170 something rushing yards because they ran it a lot.

This was a rivalry game and they have two of the most physically talented WRs in the country. Eddie hasn't been 100% all season, they made plays passing, but I think this is an outlier really.

But Evans and Williams do need some more reps, especially on third down.

It was weird we gave up some big plays because they figured out EJ cold get beat every play. They missed(dropped) 2 other TDs early in the game against EJ.

But at the same time what our D did to them in the redzone was huge. I am not sure any team D in the country could do what our D did to keep them out of endzone time after time.

I think the defense came into the game a little worn out

where I was at for the viewing last night I kept telling everyone our D reminded me of Rocky. Just kept taking punch after punch but never going down. Every time you thought they were out hey got back up off the mat and held.

Smart and Saban are coming dangerously close to group think mode. They've been together so long, there's a good chance no new ideas are being tossed around out there. As good as Smart is, it might be best for him to move on. Best for his development as a coach and best for Alabama.

Time for fresh blood and ideas on the defensive side.

Things have changed.

I don't think we should ask Kirby to go, he is the best DC in the game, we're just young at Corner and our best guys up front are young.

Though I wouldn't mind adding Muschamp in the event of Kirby taking a HC job.

I dont think we should either FWIW

But 11 games into the season, "young" is just an excuse.

I believe it was Tim Williams who made a big stop on the early toss sweep in the red zone. He and Evans are great speed rushers.

Not sure if it's the coaches fault that EJ was getting burned. I think they did the right thing by putting in Sylve. If it was Cyrus getting beat for those TDs I don't think yall would be blaming great coaches...

Defensive problems for this game =

1.) No pass rush from DL. We needed speed of the DL. I yelled for Rashaan all night; thankfully they listened 2nd half. I.E Myles Garrett destroying Shon Coleman.

2.) Because of no pass rush from DL. We had to Blitz. Blitzing reduces the number of people who can defend the run because they overcommit. See the UGA game; they had pressure with DL and their LBs stayed home and attacked the hole / outside when AU ran the bal.

3.) Eddie Jackson couldn't keep up with the speed of WRs. Hence Sylve was placed. But in all seriousness, tall receivers who can run = mismatch for 'Bama all damn day.

If Smart leaves, and I have been saying for awhile I think he needs too, I think Barry Odom might be a better hire than Muschamp as far as coaching goes. He has put an extremely competent defense together at Memphis 3 years in a row, with hardly any talent. Dude can straight up coach. Muschamp would be the better recruiter obviously.

We wanted to stop the run we did that. I don't think we expected Coates to be as dominant as he was, so we adjusted & used our speed rushers more. The best part of our gameplan was stuffing the run. You have to realize in these shootouts stopping the run is still vital.

The defensive problems against Auburn go directly back to the defensive backs. When a go route against man coverage is a high percentage play, the defense is going to give up a lot of yards.

Yep. And it's no secret that Auburn's passing game is primarily deep passes to Coates/Williams. They don't throw a lot of underneath stuff. Knowing this, how did we keep allowing WRs to get behind us?
