-- Starting defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand was going through drills with the outside linebackers. Hand was third in line for drills behind Jamey Mosley and Mekhi Brown. Inside linebacker Josh McMIllon was also working with the outside linebackers. So was defensive lineman LaBryan Ray for a third straight day.

-- With Hand working with the outside linebackers, the first-team defensive line during drills was Da'Ron Payne at nose tackle and Josh Frazier and Raekwon Davis at defensive end. The second group consisted of Jamar King at nose tackle and Johnny Dwight and Isaiah Buggs at defensive end. Quinnen Williams was with the third group.

I'm glad he's moving around. Not that he's "small", but his body build seems better at JACK then at DE. Also, maybe it was me, but Hand always seemed to get sucked into blocks and unable to win one-on-one.

R Davis as a DE is going to cause some match up issues

This is like an insurance policy, right? If his speed is in the 4.8 or 4.9 range, he can excel at jack. I doubt we actually see him lineup there but Saturday will be a great game for auditions.

Already not much depth on the DL, moving Ray and Hand to LB isn't going to help.

I actually think moving Evans back outside would help more. We have 2 elite youngsters on the inside that could take his place beside Hamilton.

He will only play OLB on 3rd down likely run plays. I doubt he plays more than 10 snaps at OLB the entire season

Rewinding what Nick Saban said on his radio show | al.com
quote:

-- Saban said the team is judicious when deciding which freshmen play their first year on campus and their ability to play special teams factors into the equation. He noted that LaBryan Ray and Chris Allen may have redshirted this year, but then injuries happened and that gave them the chance to get on the field in 2017.

-- Saban said there is no plan to move defensive end Da'Shawn Hand to outside linebacker. But he could play as an outside pass rusher in the team's dime package.

-- Referring to Rashaan Evans (groin) and Anfernee Jennings (ankle), Saban said he is hopeful both will be back "in a couple of weeks."

-- After outside linebackers Christian Miller, Terrell Lewis and Anfernee Jennings suffered significant injuries last Saturday, Saban said this is the first time in his coaching career that he has lost three players at one position.

About what I figured. I hope to see how well the middle is defended without Evans there. I still think Evans could be a terror playing Jack even though he is smaller than what Saban likes there.
