The doubles team of Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe won UA its first-ever tennis title today in the women's doubles championship. They beat the 2nd seeded Georgia Bulldogs in dominating fashion on the Dawgs' home court.

They won in only two sets, 6-1 and 6-0. They really made quick work of the Bulldogs. It's great to see all of UA's sports programs continue to grow on a national level. It shows what can happen when you actually invest in these programs. The tennis team just got that brand-new indoors facility a couple of years ago and they are already competing and winning at a national level.

A side CSB- I actually got to hit an opening serve to Maya Jansen two years ago. I netted the first two attempts but aced her on my third try lol. So it was pretty cool to see her bring home the Natty today. Roll Tide ladies.

Post game interview

Maybe this pair could take their show to the US Open? They dominated the championship match vs the #1 home UGA duo.

I don't know if Jenny Mainz will get a plaque on the Champions Plaza since it was a dou Championships, like an individual title sorta. All the Coaches honored were behind Team Championships and the women's tennis team fell int he Elite Eight.

Hopefully this will be a moot point this time next year. All the key cogs of this team are coming back next year and could be favorites to win it all from pre-season for the first time ever.

It will be interesting to see what they do in that situation. I mean, they were still coached up to get to that point. The team has shown steady improvement over the past several years, so lets see if they can build on the momentum leading to next season.
