Colorado State is a solid football team. This week will be a nice step up.

Our schedule really did set up nicely as long as we could win that first one against FSU

- an easy week 2 vs a pretty bad Fresno team
- a more difficult week 3 against a solid bowl bound mid-major, but still a game that we can get young inexperienced guys great experience
- a more difficult week 4 against a solid, but not scary Vanderbilt team on the road

Hopefully this is a game where we really start to see the offense develop its identity.

I'd really like to see us come out and play nasty on the offensive line and mash for a few drives. I know we all want to talk about passing, but I think our offensive line needs to develop an identity as badly as we need to get in a groove throwing.

I want to go into Nashville with those guys feeling good about knocking guys off the ball.

Same. I love to see Jalen slice up defenses with his legs, but I don't want him getting hurt especially against Colorado State of all teams. Pound the backs, let the OL continue to develop that ferocity and cohesiveness, let Najee get more reps, and if Jacobs can go let him knock the rust off.

If I'm Daboll I'm drawing up a lot of plays for Robert foster and Jerry Jeudy, let them get some confidence so their talent can shine when we need it. Sims and Ruggs too, of course.

Bama didn't even crack 100 yards rushing when they played Colorado St in 13.

Bama won the game 31-6, but the game was closer then the score indicated.

Absolutely. That's the most pressing issue, imo

Yeah, think I saw that Womack was getting some time in practice at RG, and Willis was at RT. The offensive line has all the talent in the world. They just have to develop better chemistry and communicate better. FSU almost always had a free blitzer coming after Jalen, which is something we rarely see under Saban.

Would love for us to finally start doing the ground and pound. We heard all offseason about how this would be Daboll's MO here, and we've seen nothing but spread.

Never thought I'd see the day when Alabama doesn't have a true fullback.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bama didn't have one RB tackled for a loss in the FSU game. That is a positive; however, there were also times that getting a surge just didn't happen. Who knows how good FSU's defense is. They are probably top-20 but it is too early to tell.

I'll be at the CSU game this weekend with my son, so I sure hope to see a great game by the entire team.

Nick Saban talks Colorado State, Alabama linebackers | al.com
quote:

Alabama coach Nick Saban spoke to the media during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday in advance of the Crimson Tide's game against Colorado State on Saturday.

Below is a rundown of what he said:

-- Saban: "Colorado State is a very good team. They played very impressively this year, had a lot of opportunities against Colorado that they squandered with penalties, called-back touchdowns, so this is going to be a very challenging game for us. Our focus needs to be on our players respecting their talent and focusing on improving and playing better as a group and the opportunities that are created for new players certainly need to elevate their game."

-- Saban on Jamey Mosley: "He's worked really, really hard. He's gotten a lot bigger and a lot stronger. Very conscientious guy who it's very important to him to know what to do and exactly how to do it, do his job well. And I think that's why he's been able to make a contribution to the team."

-- Saban said he remembers Jamey Mosley as a little kid from when Alabama was recruiting C.J. Mosley.

-- Saban on Colorado State quarterback Nick Stevens: "He's a very accurate passer and probably, from a passing standpoint, maybe the most efficient guy we've played against so far this year."

-- Saban on Shaun Dion Hamilton: "I know it's been a struggle for him to get back to where he wants to be, and he's worked really, really hard. We're very pleased with his progress and his leadership and his performance and production. So far he's been very good."

-- Saban on Colorado State: "They're very well-coached. They play with a lot of toughness. They compete. They've done a great job getting takeaways on defense. They do a great job of executing their offense, score a lot of points, play well on special teams. This a very good football team all the way around."

Vanderbilt is being slept on a little. Their QB is legit. I can't wait until November though when the real fun begins.

It's pretty evident that Vandy has played well so far this season. I don't think opposing coaches will take them lightly at all. I think it's safe to say Saban will ensure his staff and players take them seriously.

The schedule sets up well, with the competition being a bit tougher week to week.

Vanderbilt is being slept on A LOT

They sliced up with ease a Middle Tennessee team that went on the road and beat Syracuse as a 16 point dog in week 2.

If they knock off K-State this weekend, they're legitimately in the discussion as a contender to win the east.

Vandy has a really good defense. Their offense will get shut down by any good defense.

Bama has a better shot of shutting out Vandy then Colorado St.

Vandy's QB is dominating so far this year. I don't know what groun CSU gets ton of respect and Vandy doesn't. Personally, I think they will both get dominated, but but have strengths.

I'm not saying they're going to the playoffs, but a really good defense and a serviceable QB is plenty good enough to win the east and Vandy has both to go along with a legitimate SEC quality running back.

UF doesn't have an offense at all. Kentucky looks like they're going to struggle to reach 6-6. Tennessee, Mizzou, and USCe all appear to have problems stopping runny noses.

Vandy looks like they could be equal or better than all of them, which leaves only Georgia and Vandy gets them in Nashville.

Like I said, I need to see them beat K-State before I completely get on the Vandy to Atlanta train but if it happens, just remember you heard it here first.

Alabama practice report: O-Line movement, LB updates | al.com
quote:

Alabama practiced outside Wednesday with the temperature 72 degrees.

The Tide continued preparations for its game Saturday against Colorado State.

Here are some observations gleaned from the limited viewing period provided to the media:

-- Alabama shuffled the right side of its offensive line. At one point during individual drills, Josh Casher was working at right guard in place of Lester Cotton, who wasn't actively involved. Cotton seemed limited after Nick Saban said he got "dinged up" against Fresno State last weekend. Later, during team drills, Matt Womack moved inside to right guard with Jedrick Willis at right tackle. Wills alternated with redshirt freshman Scott Lashley in this particular setup.

-- Both linebackers Rashaan Evans (groin) and Anfernee Jennings (ankle) were spotted in black jerseys. Evans was off to the side with a trainer while Jennings, an edge rusher, was seen near his position group.

-- Josh Jacobs showed some burst during individual drills. The running back missed the first two games with a hamstring injury he suffered last month.

-- Dylan Moses wasn't seen. The freshman outside linebacker has yet to be spotted at practice this week. Saban said Moses would miss Monday's workout but didn't indicate then that his absence would be prolonged.

CSU is a better team than most realize. They will be playing in bowl season. Vandy may be a legit top 25 team. If they beat KSU, we'll know.

Secondly, I have to admit the idea of moving Womack to RG and Wills to RT really intrigues me. I hope they test that out during the game this weekend. Nothing against Cotton, but he's just never turned into a dominant player even though he's been given multiple chances in the starting line up over the last couple of years. He sort of reminds me of Dominick Jackson at RT. He was the best option his senior year, but was a clear weak link. With our recruiting, there should be no weak links on the OL. Womack and Wills could be a NASTY run blocking combo on that right side.
