Early in his career Maddux was consistently throwing the ball 91-93. However, you are right. There is more to pitching than velocity. But it does help your margin for error when you can throw a bit harder.
Maddux was the smartest pitcher out there, plus he could throw any of four pitches anywhere he wanted in any count. Hopefully our guys can do that. We will be hard to beat.

I'll take command and control vs velocity anyday.

Myers isn't coming. Bohannon told him we didn't have room. So make that two.
We are going to need our junior college guys to play well and hopefully start to develop the younger guys.

So that stuff about how good Goff was recruiting was crap

Well, he actually had some really good players signed. I mean this is a different looking class with Bubba Thompson, Jacob Heatherly, Alex Valverde, and DJ Petrinsky. However, every team has to deal with the draft. So in that sense, there wasn't a lot of quality depth. Plus, he botched the roster management so bad that we've lost some guys because of that.

Yea, he did sign the 2 kids that drafted and signed, and the JuCo kids aren't really included at all in these rankings. And, it was Year 1, so he was just developing relationships (theoretically, I guess).

Praytor is a legit bat, by the way. I think he's better than that ranking. Big time power potential. Will be some growing pains as a freshman, but I think he'll be a middle of the lineup guy in 2018.

Our son got the opportunity to meet Coach Bohannon this past weekend. Good vibes, very personable and appears a much better fit for UA than the previous coach. 2 players from our sons showcase team already has offers and both are 2020 kids. 1 is a pitcher/3b who throws upper 80's (has hit 92mph) and the other is a SS who is very quick with great range and strong arm. Both are solid hitters. Have 2 other pitchers (LHP mid to upper 80's and a RHP with same velo) getting some attention from UA staff as well.

I saw this. Good luck in the big ten. Their conference champion, Nebraska, couldn't even host a regional.
