we could not win with our coach nor players from last year. So was it all coach or a combination of Both. Someone with BB insight please explain why 2018 will be better.

Why I think 2018 will be better:

First of all, it really couldn't get worse, it won't stay the same, so it can only get better ha.

But I think a big issue is that the team will buy into Bohannon and staff - something that never happened with Goff.

But we will return essentially our entire lineup from a position player aspect, and offensively we weren't that bad - we were about middle of the pack in the SEC for example - and several of those guys I would expect to really improve. We'll also have a couple instant-impact players such as Sam Praytor at C and Joe Breaux in the OF.

Pitching was just horrible. Just horrible and while we lose our best/most consistent guy from last year in Garrett Suchey - we return Jake Walters. As for other returning players, I like the upside of Deacon Medders.

And there will be a TON of new names - and many of them we expect to be immediate helps - esp the JUCO guys...here are some names:

Sam Gardner (JR) RHP
Sage Diedhm (JR) LHP
Alex Valverde (JR) RHP
Chris Holcomb (FR) LHP
Mason Duke (JR) RHP
JT Salter (JR) RHP
Brady Greene (FR) RHP
Brock Guffey (FR) LHP
etc.

Problem is, obviously, the SEC is so tough and the SEC West should be very very good next year as I expect virtually every other team other than Texas A&M to be better than this year - or at least close (LSU will take a small step back) but State and Ole Miss should be really good. Arkansas will be a preseason Top 3-5 in the nation and Auburn should still be very good.

I think we'll do a hell of a lot better than 5-24-1, though. And odds are we can't have nearly the injury issues we did this past year, either losing Brock Love & Garret Rukes for the year (and next year), Gene Wood, Hunter Alexander and Kyle Kaufman missed time and then played through injuries. Walters missed a start at one point. Cody Henry missed extensive time. Logan Carey missed time. ETc etc etc.

Florida wins the title.

Always envy their success outside of football. I dream of the day we win in baseball.

Dang... It's hard to believe that was 20 years ago. I've got a Roberto Vaz autographed lineup card somewhere in my mom's attic. I watched them blast Michigan early that year. They scored like 60 runs in that 3 game series. They were really fun to watch.

What a freak injury for Roberto before the championship game. Not sure we would have won, but I liked our chances with him hitting and pitching.

Can't wait to get back to Omaha.

Anyone watching the college homerun Derby? Chandler Taylor is killing it.

Can someone summarize what Goff did to get cut so quickly?

He was a huge dick. And tried to run the entire team off that were not his guys. Alienated players, alumni, high school coaches, and never tried to be a part of the community.

Bohannon and staff are recruiting hard. I like the results so far.

Pretty big commitment. Helena was the top high school baseball program in the country this past year.

It's a little surprising. He was committed to Samford back in the spring. And while his record was amazing and he was definitely a good pitcher, his velocity didn't seem SEC-level when I saw him. However, he has apparently had a significant velo jump over the late spring and summer.

He's hit 93. That's impressive for a HS JR. I'd imagine he's got room to grow that to 95-96.

You must have not read the rest of my post. "However, he has apparently had a significant velo jump over the late spring and summer." He wasn't throwing close to 93 when I saw him. Maybe 83-84.

I read your entire post. I provided a speed to go along with you statement of

I wasn't saying you were wrong, man. I was basically saying "yeah. he has had a velocity jump and has hit 93".

Greg Maddox rarely if ever broke 90 on the gun but he was a pretty decent pitcher. Velocity isn't everything.

That's true. But Maddox has forgotten more about pitching than most will ever hope to know.
