OT Quinn Carroll

Carroll visited Tuscaloosa in the spring when he earned his offer. The four-star tackle expressed a lot of enthusiasm about the Crimson Tide, however, with a lot of suitors after him, Carroll's recruitment seems open to most.

LB Nakobe Dean

Alabama sits in good spot for the four-star prospect from Mississippi at this juncture in his recruitment after Dean camped in Tuscaloosa this past summer.

OT Amari Kight

Alabama offered the in-state tackle in June, and quickly gained steam ahead of Auburn on the Crystal Ball. Kight grew up an Alabama fan down the road in Alabaster. With Kight and Webb, the majority of the Tide's '19 OL class could come from within the state.

QB Taulia Tagovailoa

The younger brother of Alabama freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia earned his offer from the staff in July of 2016, and has since made the move from Hawaii to Thompson in Alabaster, Ala. The four-star signal caller has posted impressive numbers through the air, and actually out-passed his older brother yardage-wise last season.

ATH Jammie Robinson

Alabama was one of the first to offer the Cordele (Ga.) Crisp County product. At the time, Robinson named Alabama his leader. The four-star athlete is a teammate of Tide commit Quay Walker.

S Ke'shun Brown

Arguably one of the best prospects in the entire state, Brown picked up his offer from the Tide, along with several others, earlier this year. The rising prospect out of Montgomery (Ala.) Carver has a ways to go before making a final decision.

QB Paul Tyson

Tyson, the great-grandson of Paul "Bear" Bryant, is getting his first taste as a varsity starter this season. That hasn't stopped a number of heavyweight programs from offering. With a successful first-year campaign under center at Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.), don't be shocked to see the Tide offer -- an offer I don't think the Bama legacy would pass up.

Alabama will open the 2017 season against Florida State on Sept. 2 in Atlanta at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Crimson Tide are expecting to host some major recruits. Because it’s a neutral site game, the coaching staff will not be allowed to talk to them. Florida State will also have a group of visitors at the game, too, but like Alabama, its coaching staff cannot have communication with the recruits.

Here is a list of recruits expected to visit:

Alabama commits

3-star punter Skyler Delong (Fort Mill, S.C.)
4-star linebacker Quay Walker (Cordele, Ga.)
4-star wide receiver Xavier Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
2019 4-star offensive tackle Pierce Quick (Trussville, Ala.)

Targets committed elsewhere

4-star quarterback Emory Jones (Franklin, Ga.) — committed to Ohio State
4-star cornerback Kyler McMichael (Norcross, Ga.) — committed to Clemson

Elite 2018 targets

5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell (Plantation, Fla.)
5-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. (Plantation, Fla.)
4-star tight end Luke Ford (Carterville, Ill.)
4-star cornerback Jaycee Horn (Alpharetta, Ga.)
4-star linebacker JJ Peterson (Moultrie, Ga.)
4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross (Phenix City, Ala.)
4-star wide receiver Anthony Schwartz (Plantation, Fla.)
4-star outside linebacker Adam Anderson (Rome, Ga.)
3-star defensive tackle Jalen Cunningham (Odenville, Ala.)

2019 targets

5-star running back Quavaris Crouch (Charlotte, N.C.)
5-star center Clay Webb (Oxford, Ala.)
4-star offensive guard Keiondre Jones (Hogansville, Ga.)
4-star safety Jaylen McCollough (Powder Springs, Ga.)
4-star outside linebacker King Mwikuta (Lagrange, Ga.)
4-star cornerback Jalen Perry (Dacula, Ga.)

2020 targets

4-star athlete Arik Gilbert (Marietta, Ga.)
4-star quarterback Harrison Bailey (Marietta, Ga.)
4-star quarterback Max Johnson (Watkinsville, Ga.)

JJ Peterson still says Alabama leads

The only thing that has changed about JJ Peterson’s recruitment in the past several months is who his No. 2 school is. At different points, that spot has been occupied by Auburn, Georgia and Oregon. Back in July at The Opening, it was Oregon. Now, it’s Auburn.

Alabama holding the top spot in his recruitment has been the only constant with Peterson, a 4-star linebacker from Colquitt County High School (Moultrie, Ga.). The Crimson Tide have led for at least six months.

Is there anything Auburn, Georgia or Oregon can do to overtake Alabama for the top spot?

“I don’t really know,” Peterson told SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk.

Peterson has said that he wants to make a commitment after his senior season, which began last Saturday when Colquitt County beat Norcross, 20-17. The elite linebacker isn’t playing at 100 percent because of a sports hernia injury and mainly only played in third-down situations.

It seems like the U.S. Army All-American is going to take official visits before making a decision. Alabama likely will get one, and Auburn, too. He doesn’t know with 100 percent certainty because he’s visited both of those schools numerous times. The only schools he mentioned that will definitely get an official visit this fall are Michigan and Oregon.

The nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, wasn’t clear why he hasn’t just committed to Alabama already if the team has been No. 1 for him for several months, but it would be a surprise if he ended up choosing any other team not named the Crimson Tide. On Saturday, Peterson said he’s closest with Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. He had previously said his best relationship was with Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams.

Pruitt and Colquitt County coach Rush Propst, who has a very active role in Peterson’s recruitment, go back to the Tide coach’s days at Hoover High School, where he was Propst’s defensive coordinator.

Peterson said that Propst’s relationship with Pruitt doesn’t influence him in any way. It should be noted that Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey served in the same role on Propst’s staff at Hoover.

“That’s not a factor to me,” Peterson said. “Me and Coach Pruitt talk about business stuff. When we’re around him, we have a lot of conversations.”

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound prospect has been Alabama’s top inside linebacker target for several months now. There’s lots of confidence in Tuscaloosa that the team will land his commitment whenever he decides to go public with his intentions.

Asa Martin finalizes commitment plans

Asa Martin, a 4-star running back from Austin High School (Decatur, Ala.), will announce his commitment this Thursday at 11 a.m. ET during a school ceremony. His finalists are Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Florida.

The Gators have two running back commitments, so they’re essentially eliminated from the mix. Martin visited Clemson once and picked up a scholarship offer from the Tigers just over a month ago. His relationship with the coaching staff isn’t strong.

That leaves Alabama and Auburn, the two schools, I think, that are the main contenders to land Martin’s commitment. The confidence level on both sides is very, very high. Auburn has felt particularly strong about where it stands with him in the past few weeks. Alabama has felt good about Martin for a few months now.

Martin became Alabama’s top running back target in the 2018 class after 5-star prospect Zamir White committed to Georgia. I’m sticking with my prediction on Martin choosing Alabama this Thursday, but I’m not supremely confident because both teams feel good about where they stand with the nation’s No. 10 running back.

If the Crimson Tide miss on Martin, they could choose to pursue another in-state prospect in Harold Joiner, who has said he’s down to LSU and Michigan State. Joiner changes his mind almost daily on the contenders in his recruitment, so I wouldn’t put much, if any, stock in that. He’s also said that there’s no way he’d commit to Alabama, but the team has still shown interest.

247Sports decided to make Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere a five-star after seeing that his play on Friday night backed what we had been hearing for months from college sources. Petit-Frere has an athletic 6-foot-6, 280-pound build with nimble feet and plays with aggression. I believe he is the clear No. 1 offensive lineman in Florida this recruiting cycle.

In recent years, current Miami Dolphin and former Ole Miss Rebel Laremy Tunsil of Lake City (Fla.) Columbia is the gold standard to which all Sunshine State offensive linemen are graded against. Since Tunsil came out in 2013, the next two that appeared to be in the same league from a talent standpoint was Martez Ivey in 2015 and Alex Leatherwood in 2017.

Petit-Frere is similar to Ivey in terms of physical build and excelling at pulling. Leatherwood made his name by stuffing elite defensive lineman after elite defensive lineman at various different camps as well as the Under Armour All-American game. Petit-Frere did not hit the camp circuit and will likely not face an elite defensive lineman all fall. We will have to wait until January to see Petit-Frere truly be tested at the Under Armour All-American game. It will be then when we fully grasp his status among some of the best.

As far as recruiting, Petit-Frere is not tipping his hand on who is in the hunt, but Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, and Notre Dame are considered teams that have a chance.

Ranking Alabama’s top 15 prospects in the 2018 class

quote:

These rankings will be released once a month throughout the football season. The list is based on evaluation by SEC Country reporters, recruiting interest from the two in-state programs, other offers, stats and ratings from the main recruiting outlets (247Sports, ESPN, Rivals and Scout). The star ratings below come from the 247Sports composite.

Think we can get back into the thick of things with Joiner if Asa goes to the barn?
