I've seen lots of chatter from literally every mod that I follow that James very likely will get his first look at DE. I agree that I'm excited about both of those guys, though. As I've mentioned, it's been stated several times that the staff projects James to be one of the top 5 players we signed in this class by the time his college career is over. Will be interesting to see if they hit on that evaluation.

Alabama is welcoming the remaining members of its 2017 recruiting class on campus this weekend, into early next week, as summer classes and workouts are set to get underway.

The Tide saw 16 members of its seventh straight No. 1 ranked recruiting class enroll early in the months of January and February. This weekend UA fans should expect 12 more additions on campus.

Take a look back at the rest of the signees making the move to T-Town.

LaBryan Ray, 5-star DE, Madison (Ala.) James Clemens

There was never much doubt on Ray eventually joining Alabama's 2017 class. The state's top player did however take late visits to Florida and Tennessee before committing and signing with the Crimson Tide on Feb. 1.

Jedrick Wills, 4-star DE, Lexington (Ky.) Lafayette

Wills committed to Alabama over a handful of other big-time offers in November of 2016. The four-star guard flirted with Kentucky late but maintained his original verbal commitment in the end.

Devonta Smith, WR, Amite (La.)

Smith was considered an Alabama lean immediately after decommitting from Georgia midway through his junior year of high school. The elite receiver waited until National Signing Day to announce his plans committing to the Tide over LSU and Miami.

Henry Ruggs III, WR, Montgomery (Ala.) Lee

Despite trending to Alabama for the entirety of his recruitment, Ruggs' storyline became one of the more interesting to follow in the days leading up to Signing Day. Multiple Florida State Crystal Ball predictions were made as the Seminoles made a big push for the 247Sports five-star late. In the end Ruggs elected to stay home.

VanDarius Cowan, LB, Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.)

Cowan was originally set to enroll early after flipping from Florida State in April of 2016, but had to change those plans late. After announcing he'd take official visits in January, the four-star 'backer nixed those plans and got an Alabama tattoo on his arm.

Markail Benton, LB, Phenix City (Ala.) Central

Benton was a longtime Auburn lean before Alabama pushed for the top linebacker in the state and earned a commitment last June. Despite taking a late official visit to Auburn, the Tide held onto the elite 'backer.

Mathis committed to Alabama over LSU and TCU the day before National Signing Day. The Tide took momentum in Mathis' recruitment in October and never let go.

Christopher Allen, LB, Baton Rouge (La.) Southern University Lab

Allen, another thought to be LSU lean early, committed to Alabama over the Tigers in November following a visit for the Iron Bowl. Ed Orgeron and staff worked until the very end to flip their hometown product, but in the end the four-star 'backer stuck with the Tide.

Kendall Randolph, OT, Madison (Ala.) Bob Jones

Randolph was another longtime Alabama lean that committed to the Tide last July. Florida maintained contact despite his pledge, and nearly got the four-star tackle on campus for a late official visit in January before Randolph shut down his recruitment.

James committed to Alabama last July and never looked back. The one-time Baylor commit didn't take another visit besides his official to Tuscaloosa in January.

Hunter Brannon, OC, Cullman (Ala.) -- Blue shirt

Brannon won't count against numbers until the 2018 class, but will still enroll this summer. There was no doubt where Brannon was going once the Tide offered last July. Brannon didn't wait long committing on the same day.

Joseph Bulovas, K, Mandeville (La.) -- Blue shirt

Bulovas is likely the kicker of the future for the Crimson Tide, as the U.S. Army All-American flipped to Alabama from Mississippi State late in the cycle after former Tide kicker commit Brandon Ruiz flipped to Arizona State.

From the Auburn board:

quote:

KN put up an update on our CB recruiting this morning. Says that even with Jalyn Armour-Davis trending to Bama it doesn't look like we are pushing for 3* CB JaKorey Hawkins right now. He says he talks to AU like once every 2 weeks. Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Penn State, Troy & West Virginia are recruiting him hardest right now. Doesn't speak with Greg Brown and contact with AU has been minimal since the offer.

So who are we recruiting? 4* Kyler McMichael and 3* Juanyeh Thomas appear to be two top targets. AU leads for Thomas and is pushing for McMichael. KN says we should no more about AU's chances with McMichael if he visits for BCW. If he does and AU nails visit good chance we become a real contender.

Some other names include:

- 3* Kendrick Torain: really likes AU & UNC. Should visit this summer

- 3* Stanley Garner: listed us in his recent top 11 and plans to visit

- 3* DJ Crossen: AU offered recently

- 4* Jaycee Horn: Apparently he is very high on our board but Bama is trending (though he recently said SCAR was a top team too). KN says not completely sure if he is a take for Bama but AU staff loves him

- 4* Jordan Miner: Rumor is he wants to visit this summer so we will see

- 4* Christian Tutt: Has a top 3 of Bama, Nebraska & Ohio State. Did not mention AU despite visiting recently however he's apparently very high on our board possibly higher than he is on board for Bama & Ohio State. KN did say watch out for the Cornhuskers

So right now we get Juanyeh Thomas and no idea after that. I am worried that Greg Brown is more of a find under the radar guys than someone who can battle for top talent. I mean if those under the radar guys pan out that's cool I just wish we could recruit top CB talent. Not sure we have ever signed a 5* CB

KN had a recruiting insider up earlier this week. Here's summary

- Hand was at Apopka High School's spring game Thursday which is home to 4* OT William Barnes & 3* OG Ed Montilus. It sounds like we not really recruiting Montilus much anymore which makes sense considering we already have 2 OGs on board. KN says UF the leader for Barnes but AU in his top group and they should get a visit this summer. FWIW of our OT targets I think this kid's the best of the bunch so would love for us to somehow steal him from the Gators

- AU offered unrated OT Doug Johnson this past week. He's 6'6" 325 lbs but KN makes it sound like he's a backup option right now. If we don't make up ground on Barnes/Gouraige/Petite-Frere/Wonnum then we will probably push for this kid

- Sounds like 4* WR Matthew Hill is trying real hard to get to BCW next weekend even though he is supposedly supposed to be at an Under Armour camp in Maryland. It sounds like if he makes the trip we might get a commitment

- 3* DT John Mincey got an AU offer this week and then a day later UGA offered. He claimed he would commit to UGA when he got an offer and told UGA 247 that he plans on committing on his trip to Athens this fall. KN tho says AU expects him to visit. Sounds like a lot of teams are searching for DT options. Really down year at that position

The NCAA evaluation period ends in a few days, but with Big Cat Weekend (June 3) right around the corner and the summer camp season beginning in June there is no time for the Auburn staff to ease up when it comes to recruiting.

The Tigers have six commitments, meaning approximately 17 or 18 spots are left to fill.

In other words, there is lots of work left to do. And, the best place to do that work often is right at home. Home, of course, being in Auburn.

Once the high school year ends, that's when many prospect take the bulk of their visits.

Although one could argue every visit is significant, here is a rundown of 13 important recruits we think Auburn needs to get on campus in the near future. The reasons vary as to why these visits are vital.

Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB: This one is obvious. Armour-Davis was set to announce Friday, but delayed his decision. It still could come in the near future. With Alabama trending, it's crucial Auburn gets him back on campus soon to see if it can recapture some momentum. A visit could help Davis bond more with new secondary coach.
