“He’s had nothing positive things to say about it,” said Dieter, who runs in the mid 4.5s and has vertical jumped 34 inches. “He said once he got there, he fell in love with the place. A big thing for him, he said, is their receiver room is a very tight-knit group. He said the strength program is unreal and that Coach (Lane) Kiffin is really receiver-friendly."

I'm glad Mullany had such a positive experience down here.

They (the Dieter kids) have always loved to lift,” said Derek Dieter. "I can’t wait till he gets hooked up with (Alabama strength) Coach (Scott) Cochran because that guy looks awesome. “This is almost like winning the lottery. I can’t wait to see him being part of that team. ... My gosh, he’s going to Alabama. Wow."

Dieter's dad seems excited

Bruce Feldman article on Dieter
quote:

Dieter, a Dean’s list student, will need to get a waiver to become eligible. “We talked to the compliance people here and they felt pretty confident about (getting) the waiver,” Dieter told FOX Sports Saturday afternoon. “He said there have been like 45 people in my situation and they’ve all gotten approved."

Just read that.

I don't think he would have publicly committed if it weren't happening.

wouldn't be surprised if the tweet you were all freaking out about was about this process and not DRob, who I am positive we would still take if he wanted to come here.

some of you guys need to chill. we're gonna be fricking sick.

Luke Del Rio - UA, Oregon St, UF

So, at least, it can be done.

Might not be the same because he was a walkon for us. He didn't even have to wait a year because of that when he transferred to Oregon St.

But apparently they are saying getting waivers isn't that difficult, so hoping for the best.

I've been MIA for three months. Anything of note happened in that time?

I'd assumed it would.

In the same bylaw section that covers the one time 4yr-4yr transfer rule, it addresses the exception for nonrecruited student athletes. They have to meet 3 conditions for exemption to the rule.

1. Can't have been previously recruited to the institution, which another section defines from having provided official visits, made off campus contact, initiated multiple phone calls, to having offered an NLI scholly.

2. Not received financial support as an athlete

3. No competed in or participated in countable athletic activities for 14 consecutive days at previous institution

Depending on the interpretation of #3 and not knowing the recruitment activities of all institutions toward Del Rio, I was kind of holding out hope that he'd been subject to the same waiver req. as a recent UA case, which unfortunately may not be apples to apples as you indicated.

But, who knows? My guess is that any delay by the staff was due to running the traps on all of the above to avoid surprises.

I just always hate leaving it to the NCAA to do what's right for the athlete.

AJ McCarron with 4 star 2017 QB commit Jake Fromm, and hopefully future 4 star 2018 QB commit Jack West.

Alabama QB commit Jake Fromm says throwing with AJ McCarron was ‘awesome’
quote:

Jake Fromm understands the pressure of being the next great Alabama quarterback, and he’s ready for the challenge.

Fromm, a four-star prospect from Houston County High School (Warner Robins, Ga.), spent some time with former Crimson Tide great and current Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron over the weekend, and it was an experience Fromm won’t soon forget.

“It was awesome,” Fromm told SEC Country. “He really focuses on the little things, and it was great watching his work ethic. AJ can really spin (the football).”

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder also got to hang out with one of Alabama’s top quarterback targets in the 2018 class, four-star Jack West. Fromm said McCarron gave him advice on how to handle the rest of his recruitment.

“He just told me to enjoy the ride and be ready to work when I get to Alabama,” Fromm said of McCarron’s message to him.

Since committing in October, Fromm has become one of the Crimson Tide’s top recruiters. He recently told SEC Country he has a list of recruits he’s hoping that joins him in Tuscaloosa, and despite receiving strong interest from the in-state Georgia Bulldogs, Fromm says he really doesn’t see anything that will make him back off his pledge to Alabama.

“I love Alabama so much,” he said. “I’m really pumped to enroll early there and just enjoy the rest of the recruiting process.”

Fromm is rated as the nation’s No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2017, according to the 247Sports composite.

Otis Yelverton's stay at Bama was short lived. Didn't help any on the recruiting trail.

Y'all please check other sources, but some guys on BOL are posting that Brent Key will be joining the Bama staff as OL coach and Mario will be shifting over to focus on TE's and Tackles.

One source is SI's Thayer Evans.

I am starting to see this in several places. I really like this move.

Brent Key is an Alabama native, and will only strengthen our efforts in Alabama. Not a surprise with Ansley and now Key, as more programs try to recruit in our borders.

Just extremely happy Mario Cristobal remains as a recruiter, and he has a strong history with TEs at Miami. Hopefully Bobby Williams remains in a "personel" role.
