The Alabama and Clemson stars of today will play for the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday. Who will be the stars of tomorrow for these two programs? Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell identifies commitments from the 2017 class that could potentially replace key pieces for the Crimson Tide and Tigers.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

From an elite offensive tackle to another Florida receiver ready to star in Tuscaloosa, Alabama just reloads under Nick Saban.

Alex Leatherwood

Potentially replacing: Cameron Robinson

Farrell’s take: Robinson walked in and took the left tackle spot immediately at Alabama and it’s unlikely Leatherwood will do the same thing. If Jonah Williams flips to left tackle, then it’ wouldn't be out of the question to see Leatherwood work at right tackle or guard. Physically he’s ready, and his technique is more advanced than Robinson’s at the same stage.

Najee Harris

Potentially replacing: Bo Scarbrough

Farrell’s take: Harris isn’t the same kind of runner Scarbrough is, nor is he as strong and thick as Scarbrough was at the same stage, but he is a tall, big running back and Alabama has had success with prospects like that in recent years. The assumption is Scarbrough will be back in 2017, along with talented backs such as Damien Harris, Joshua Jacobs and B.J. Emmons but Harris will be the most talented of the group the second he arrives on campus.

Jerry Jeudy

Potentially replacing: Calvin Ridley

Farrell’s take: Ridley has one more year at Alabama before he heads off to the NFL. He has been an excellent replacement for Amari Cooper, another top Florida receiver that had success in Tuscaloosa. Jeudy looks like he will continue that tradition. He is in the same mold as Ridley, a dynamic receiver who is not just a deep threat but also a very good route runner and tough after the catch.

Dylan Moses

Potentially replacing: Reuben Foster

Farrell’s take: Foster is off the NFL and the Crimson Tide has depth at linebacker, but Moses is physically ready to make an early impact. He has the size and range to play inside if needed. Foster had to wait his turn for his breakout year and Moses might have to do the same, but the 2017 five-star has the talent to keep that recent inside linebacker tradition alive or help on the outside.

AL.com caught up with a few recruits last week in San Antonio, Texas a few days before Monday's national championship game between Alabama and Clemson.

This group consists of Alabama commits and targets, one Clemson commit and two more committed to other schools.

See what they had to say. Read all of AL.com's content from the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Clemson QB commit Hunter Johnson (Brownsburg, Ind.) - "I'm obviously pulling for my Tigers. (Quarterback) Deshaun (Watson) plays great in big games. Considering how the game went last year and how these Tigers have been rolling lately in these past couple of games, I'm not going to bet against them. These are my guys and I'm excited to see what they can do. Both teams have been playing outstanding these past couple of games, but I'm going to go with Clemson, 31-28."

Georgia QB commit Jake Fromm (Warner Robins, Ga.) - "I would like to see Clemson win, but I think Alabama's going to. The defense is too tough."

Oklahoma DL commit Isaiah Thomas (Tulsa, Okla.) - "I'm thinking Alabama will win. I'll say Alabama will win 34-14."

Alabama LS commit Thomas Fletcher, (Bradenton, Fla.) - "I do not have a prediction for Monday. I know the offense has to be a lot more on cue than they were last week. If they're not, I think we're going to have some problems. But, you give Coach Saban 10 days to prepare for a team, you know he's not going to go in unprepared."

Alabama K commit Brandon Ruiz (Gilbert, Ariz.) - "I think it's going to be pretty close, especially with Lane (Kiffin) leaving. It might be a little bit slow in the beginning, but (Alabama) should pull it out."

Alabama OL commit Kendall Randolph (Madison, Ala.) - "I don't have a score prediction, but I know Alabama's going to win."

Alabama WR target Henry Ruggs III (Montgomery, Ala.) - "I can predict that it'll be a good game. Both teams have a very good D-Line. It will be interesting in the passing game." (No prediction of a winner.)

Alabama QB commit Tua Tagovailoa (Honolulu, Hawaii) - "I'm not too sure. It's going to be a tough game, that's all I know. I don't know. Clemson's got a good defense and they've got a pretty good offense, too."

Alabama DL target Aubrey Solomon (Leesburg, Ga.) -
"I'm biased, so I'm going to say 'Bama is going to win, but I know it's definitely going to be a good game because Clemson's not going to lay down and take it. It's going to be a close game."

One of the Ole Miss mods that put in a CB for Nicholas Sims to them changed it to cloudy.

It appears the only two EEs that have not been confirmed are Daniel Wright and Brian Robinson.

Robinson could be enrolled and no one would even know seeing as he lives in Tuscaloosa.

VanDarius Cowan, 4-star LB and Alabama commit, Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) – 38-17, Alabama

Kendall Randolph, 4-star OT and Alabama commit, Madison (Ala.) Bob Jones – “Alabama is going to win.”

I'm glad Tua and Najee were both at the all star game. If Tua was playing in the under armor game, idk what would have happened.

I agree, I think Tua did a great job. It was such a strange situation and Tua handled everything like a Pro.

re: Class of 2017 Recruiting MEGATHREAD: Raiding Louisiana Edition

GORNEY'S VIEW: YES

Najee Harris will be the most talented running back on Alabama’s roster from day one, but he needs to buy into the system, take to coaching and then be mistake-free to earn Saban’s trust early on.

I compare Harris to Todd Gurley, but the top-ranked player in the 2017 class is probably more talented at the same stage. If he continues to develop physically in Tuscaloosa – there’s no reason to think he won’t – then Harris could be a star in the SEC. He has the build to be the next Derrick Henry, only faster and more elusive. With his running and pass-catching ability, the five-star could be an incredible addition to Alabama’s offense.

But Harris also needs to show maturity and patience. If Scarbrough is getting more carries or Damien Harris emerges even more or Jacobs becomes a bigger part of the offense or Emmons becomes the feature back, Harris cannot relent. There is a tremendous amount of running back talent at Alabama, and Harris has to persevere and continue developing.

Harris has been a star for years in Northern California and has basically dominated every time he’s been on the football field. He needs to be focused and patient in his career at Alabama, because if he shows off his talent then he’ll be in the NFL. He’s that good, and I suspect he’ll earn playing time early and show just how good he can be.

If he can't pick up blitzes and pass block, he won't play...and I'd be surprised if he's ever had to do any of that before.
