Pretty sure grad transfers can go anywhere they want and play immediately.

Different situation.

Mo Smith is a graduate as well. Difference is Georgia has several former Alabama staff members now.

I get he likes Smart, but that's really more important than finishing well with all of the other coaches, trainers and teammates that have been with you the last 4 years? If you like Smart, send him a Christmas card and come visit him at the lake over the summer, don't abandon the team that has poured into you for years and is poised for another title run. And like you said, we can't allow a precedent for players to follow assistants when they move schools, that would be a disaster. You commit to a University, not to an assistant coach.

DeMatha (Md.) four-star running back Anthony McFarland headlines the event with another trip to College Park this weekend. He's gone on record that he holds the "best" relationship with the Maryland staff. Could it be enough to keep the elite prospect home? Time will tell, but in the meantime, the Terps are in a heavyweight battle with Alabama -- led by former Terps recruiting ace Mike Locksley -- and Miami. Right now, we're told he's an Alabama lean, but McFarland still has the Terrapins up there. We'll see if there are more twists and turns during the recruiting process.

Do we not feel go about landing N. Harris at RB? I mean with Bo, Harris, Emmons and Jacobs all being young guys and two studs committed to come in next year it seems odd we are still after RBs unless we don't feel good about N. Harris signing with us? Thoughts...

The staff always wanted to take a 3rd RB if it was the right guy like McFarland, Swift, or Dobbins because they are like a change of pace type back.

I feel good about it. I think Cochran has this in the bag but it's just too far away from signing day. Can't get too excited yet.

247sports has 3 Bama coaches in the top 10 recruiters list today. Lane Kiffin sits right outside at #14.

Its funny because before those guys joined the staff, some of us use to drool about what ace recruiters like Cristobal and Lupoi could do on the recruiting trail with Saban at Alabama.

Cristobal's recruiting is ridiculous. I know he aspires to be a Head Coach one day, but he has spoiled a pretty damn spoiled fanbase with his ability to acquire talent. Tosh is just getting started. Those guys with Kiffin, Pruitt, and Saban sniping off the top is almost unfair.

I couldn't imagine going up against that crew... RTR!!!

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – With Jerry Jeudy now on board for Alabama, the question now becomes what’s next for the Crimson Tide at the wide receiver position?

Alabama now has two commitments at wide receiver with 4-star Tyrell Shavers being the other prospect.

The Crimson Tide is expected to sign at least four wide receivers in the Class of 2017, and it’s very possible the team’s top targets are all committed before Alabama kicks off the season against Southern California.

Let’s take a look at Alabama’s top remaining targets at receiver:

Devonta Smith, 4-star, Amite, La.

Smith is scheduled to announce his commitment on Aug. 15. It would be a surprise if he chose anywhere other than Alabama.

Since he de-committed from Georgia back in January, Alabama was the favorite to land him.

The Army All-American is good friends with Crimson Tide freshman cornerback Shyheim Carter, who is also from Louisiana. The two have been friends for several years and have expressed the desire to play with each other in college.

Smith also has a great relationship with Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who was the receiver’s primary recruiter when he was at Georgia.

Finally, Alabama having assistant director of player personnel Sam Petitto on the staff is huge for the Crimson Tide’s chances of landing Smith. Petitto got his coaching career started at Amite High School and was an important person in Smith’s life when he was a child. Both he and Carter consider Petitto a father figure. Once Petitto was hired away from Georgia, it was likely that Smith was likely going to follow him to Tuscaloosa.

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound prospect recently put LSU in his group of finalists along with Alabama and Miami. That was certainly interesting.

He told SEC Country at The Opening earlier this month that he had no interest in attending college in the state of Louisiana and that he disliked the Tigers’ offense.

Putting LSU into the mix should not be a concern for Alabama. I fully expect him to be a Crimson Tide commit come Aug. 15.

Henry Ruggs, 4-star, Montgomery, Ala.

Ruggs was supposed to make his commitment on Aug. 1, but he recently delayed his decision after trips to Penn State and Auburn.

The reason for the delay was to visit more schools to make sure he was making the right decision. If he did make his decision on Aug. 1, Ruggs was expected to choose Alabama.

I still expect Alabama to land him when he does make his decision. He has told SEC Country in the past that each time he visits Tuscaloosa, he finds something new about Alabama that he likes.

Out of all the campus trips he’s taken, Alabama has hosted him more than any other school, and it’s not even close.

Even though he’s pushed back his announcement, Ruggs remains a priority for the Crimson Tide. It would be surprising if Ruggs did not end up in Alabama’s class.

Nico Collins, 4-star, Pinson, Ala.

At one point, Collins was viewed as a lock for Alabama. That is no longer the case.

Michigan is on top for the state of Alabama’s No. 1 prospect followed by Georgia. The Crimson Tide are in the No. 3 spot.

Collins told SEC Country at The Opening that Alabama did at one point lead in his recruitment but trips to Ann Arbor and Athens opened his mind to the possibility of leaving the state to play his college ball elsewhere.

He noted that traveling to different places excites him, and it’s one of the reasons why two of his favorite places to visit are ahead of Alabama at this time.

Collins is expected to announce his commitment on National Signing Day. Do not expect Alabama to go down without a fight.

Jeff Thomas, 4-star, East St. Louis, Ill.

Anointed the fastest man at The Opening, Thomas currently has Alabama on top in his recruitment.

Thomas has some academic hurdles that he needs to clear before he becomes a player the Crimson Tide would accept as a commitment.

Depending on numbers and where other position groups stand this fall, it is possible the Tide would take five receivers. Thomas would likely be the guy.

Tarik Black, 4-star, Cheshire, Conn.

If you follow Black on Twitter, you’d see him showing a lot of love to Alabama. That comes on the heels of a visit to Tuscaloosa last week.

Black had named Alabama in his top five earlier this summer, but it seems that his trip last week has the Crimson Tide quickly rising up his list of favorites.

Notre Dame and Stanford are still considered the favorites to land him, but if Alabama misses on one of its main targets, perhaps Black becomes a guy the team strongly wants in the Class of 2017.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Roughly 40 minutes after he was supposed to take the stage, Jerry Jeudy, the nation’s No. 6 wide receiver, pulled out a white Alabama visor to reveal his college destination.

The reveal was standard, but it was definitely a unique commitment ceremony.

Chaos erupted when several reporters not in attendance at the live ceremony at The Tilted Kilt in downtown Fort Lauderdale tweeted that Jeudy had committed to Alabama. Though he eventually did, the reporters caused mass confusion because Jeudy had not yet gone on stage to announce his commitment on the Tony Sands show, which he was scheduled to do around 8:30 p.m. ET. Because of the leaked info, Jeudy didn’t get to announce his decision until around 9:07 p.m. ET.

“It was kind of aggravating for people to assume where I’m going,” Jeudy told SEC Country of his thoughts on the Twitter fiasco. “It is what it is. I was just thinking how did they figure it out already? It’s in the past though. I can’t do anything about it now.”

It would have been difficult for the reporters to actually know where Jeudy was committing. His parents told SEC Country that their son did not notify them prior to the ceremony. Jeudy also said he didn’t tell any coaching staff from his five finalists, which also included Florida, Florida State, Miami and Tennessee, about his decision.

“They had to see it for themselves,” Jeudy said. “I wanted it to be a surprise.”

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect said he knew Alabama was going to be his choice “a few days after The Opening,” which ended July 10. He chose not to commit earlier because several schools were making a late push to gain his commitment.

The Under Armour All-American said Florida finished in second, but ultimately the Crimson Tide beat the Gators because he felt more comfortable in Tuscaloosa than he did in Gainesville.

“It was very close. It was a very hard decision,” Jeudy said. “I had to pray and I just kept on praying. God gave me signs and I took his advice.

“(Alabama is just a great program. They have great coaches and great players. That’s a winning team. I feel like I can do what I have to do, which is make plays.”

His familiarity with the Alabama program begins with Crimson Tide sophomore wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Jeudy and Ridley were teammates at Monarch High School before the latter moved on to Alabama.

Minutes after Jeudy announced his intentions to play for Alabama, Ridley was waiting to speak with Jeudy on FaceTime.

“It was a special moment,” Jeudy said. “He seemed excited and I am excited, too.”

Alabama’s second wide receiver commit in the Class of 2017 plans to be an early enrollee and is already looking forward to his time in a Crimson Tide jersey. He’s hoping to do what his good friend did as a true freshman for Alabama.

“I’ll have one more year with Calvin, and he’ll teach me the ropes,” Jeudy said. “He’ll show me how he got stuff done. He’ll show me the way.”

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — If you follow recruiting closely, you’ve likely seen new Alabama wide receiver commit Jerry Jeudy embarrassing defensive backs on social media.

In the past two weeks alone, two defensive backs have fallen victim to Jeudy’s quick feet. Jamyest Williams, a 4-star cornerback from Grayson High School, completely missed touching Jeudy during a cat-and-mouse drill at The Opening after getting juked out, and then 2019 Miami commit Akeem Dent tackled air during Florida’s Friday Night Lights camp after Jeudy’s devastating stop-and-go route caught the defensive back off guard.

Jeudy’s coach at Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High School told SEC Country minutes after his player committed to Alabama that Jeudy reminds him of a Crimson Tide legend and possibly a legend in the making.

“He started with nice feet, but he’s a workaholic. It’s improved over the years,” Jevon Glenn said. “He’s a football junkie. He’ll watch Amari Cooper and Calvin Ridley, who are some of his favorites. When you see him play, you can see a lot of those guys’ game in Jerry’s game. He’s the kind of guy that if you go to a camp and there are like 500 kids there, he’ll get 50 to 60 reps because he’s that competitive.”

After Deerfield’s season ended last year, the work didn’t stop for Jeudy. The newest Alabama commit sat down with Coach Glenn and developed a plan with two goals in mind: 1) How do I become the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver and 2) How can I graduate high school early?

That second question is well on its way to being accomplished. On Thursday, the day he committed to Alabama, Jeudy found out that he passed one of his summer school classes needed to become an early enrollee. The first question is still to be determined. Jeudy is currently rated as the nation’s No. 6 wide receiver, but Glenn said his star pupil is going to continue to put in the work.

“His dedication and commitment academically off the field has been tremendous,” Glenn said. “A lot of people see all of these talented athletes and don’t understand the commitment that goes into this. He’s fully committed and dedicated to being the best wide receiver he can be.”

He’s had two successful wide receivers to watch during his high school career. When Jeudy was at Monarch High School, Calvin Ridley was the star of the team. Then once he transferred to Deerfield, Calvin’s brother, Riley, a freshman wide receiver for Georgia, was the team’s focus. Now, it’s Jeudy’s turn to be the man. Like what Calvin and Riley did for him, Jeudy has taken it upon himself to mentor his younger teammates.

“He has little brothers under him now,” Glenn said. “I now see him coaching those young guys. He’s pulling aside 8th graders and freshmen coaching them up. He’s mature to the point of like an old NFL veteran — you can still give the younger guys tidbits and not worry about them taking your job.”

Minutes after announcing his intentions to play college football for Alabama, Calvin Ridley was waiting to speak with Jeudy on FaceTime to congratulate him. The two are very close friends, and it was one of the reasons why he ultimately chose the Crimson Tide.

Jeudy told SEC Country that he hopes to have the same success the elder Ridley had as a freshman at Alabama last season. Though he is going to be a sophomore this year, Jeudy believes Ridley is going to declare for the NFL draft after his junior season. That’s OK to Jeudy though, because he knows his friend is going to be there for him every step of the way.

“I’ll have one more year with Calvin, and he’ll teach me the ropes,” Jeudy said. “He’ll show me how he got stuff done. He’ll show me the way.”
