Dylan Moses, 5-star LB, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy -- Alabama commit

Five-star linebacker Dylan Moses said he was shutting down his recruitment and no longer taking visits elsewhere when he committed to Alabama on Oct. 2. Not two weeks later, the nation's top-ranked linebacker was on the sideline at LSU for the Southern Miss. game. While concerning, Bama fans can find solace that Moses, a Baton Rouge native, will be back in Tuscaloosa this weekend for one of the biggest games of the season.

Alex Leatherwood, 5-star OT, Pensacola (Fla.) Washington -- Alabama commit

Yes the five-star tackle is already committed to Alabama, but he’s recently made headlines after his official visit to Michigan, calling it the best visit he’s ever been on. While we continue to hear Leatherwood’s commitment to Alabama is solid, it doesn’t hurt to get as much face time with the Bama staff from now until when he enrolls early in just over two months.

Henry Ruggs, 4-star WR, Montgomery (Ala.) Lee

It was all Alabama for the in-state four-star receiver heading into August. Ruggs had an Aug. 1 announcement date set, and the 247Sports Crystal Ball read 100 percent Tide. Ruggs decided to delay the announcement indefinitely to keep his recruitment open. Since that time, other programs like Auburn, Florida and Penn State have become involved, making Alabama not as much as the runaway favorite as people once thought. The visit for Texas A&M will mark Ruggs’ first time on campus for a game this season. The Crystal Ball remains 100 percent Alabama.

Stanford Samuels, 5-star CB, Hollywood (Fla.) Flanagan -- FSU commit

The top flip target for Alabama has long been thought to be five-star corner and Ohio State commit Shaun Wade, and while he’s certainly a priority target, five-star corner Stanford Samuels is right there alongside Wade in Alabama’s top targets group. An FSU legacy, Samuels is seemingly a non-flip lock from his Seminoles pledge. He has, however, visited Tuscaloosa multiple times this year before this weekend’s trip. Samuels says Alabama is No. 2 behind FSU, according to a recent report from 247Sports’ Ryan Bartow.

Baron Browning, 5-star LB, Kennedale (Texas)

Now may be the perfect time for Alabama to strike for the five-star ‘backer from Texas. With the Crystal Ball favorite Longhorns struggling, Alabama may upend the home-state program and secure momentum from Browning heading into his decision next month. At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Browning has the frame to play Jack linebacker for the Tide.

The same chick who CB'd Najee Harris to USCw this week just CB'd Isaiah Wilson to Michigan. She's a Clemson mod.

Yeah, Jack Eyer is the strength coach. I remember him raving about Ardarius' athletic ability. Said his leaping ability was very impressive. Anyway, if we can sign Devonta Smith and Ruggs, we'll have probably our best WR class in history. Will also be interesting to see if Diggs sticks at WR next year. He will be a star at whatever position he stays at.

AMITE, La. — There are a few things you can count on seeing at an Amite High School football practice.

One is 4-star Devonta Smith bringing a Gatorade bottle and sitting it gently on the bench, offering it up to any defensive back that can slow him down.

The other is Smith calmly grabbing that same Gatorade at the end of the day and finishing it off.

That’s a tactic Smith, Louisiana’s No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2017, borrowed from Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin. It’s also symbolic of Smith’s level of play at this stage in his football career, which was also cemented when he received his U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game jersey on Friday afternoon.

“It means a lot to play for the people that fight for our country,” Smith told SEC Country. “It means a lot to be the first from my school, from my area, to do something this big … it’s a dream come true and something I’ve always pictured doing, and now it’s coming true.”

Smith is the first player from Amite (La.) High to compete in the game, a program that has consistently been on the rise thanks to the wide receiver’s heroics and benchmark he’s set in the area.

Behind Smith are 2019 5-star prospects Ishmael Sopsher and Devonta Lee, a defensive tackle and wide receiver that recently landed offers from LSU.

Smith’s hometown is rich with talent — particularly in the recruiting cycles to come — so naturally, receiving the invitation to the Army All-American Bowl has set a standard for his teammates to follow.

“I want to let people know that no matter where you come from, anything can be achieved,” he said. “Have a dream, stick to it and eventually, it will come true.”

Smith’s connection to the Army Bowl runs even deeper.

His aunt served in the U.S. military, which motivated Smith to compete in this All-Star event. The 6-foot-1, 160-pounder knew that he made the right decision as soon as he informed his aunt of his decision.

“It meant a lot to her,” Smith said. “The expression I saw in her face when I told her, you could tell it meant a lot.”

Smith is rated as the No. 9 wide receiver in the recruiting cycle and is down to four schools: Alabama, LSU, Miami and TCU. His decision will come on National Signing Day.

The 4-star recruit will make his first visit to Baton Rouge on Saturday for the Ole Miss game along with his family, teammates and mentor.

Until then, his sights are set on leading his team to the Louisiana state championships, a feat his coach, Zephaniah Powell, has the utmost confidence in.

Then again, Smith is a leader by example.

“He does more in practice than you actually see in games,” Powell said. “He goes even harder so the game slows down. He has an incredible work ethic …

“This summer, Devonta caught a touchdown pass in every time zone, from heading out West to Oregon to the Paradise Camp in Miami. He’s faced the best, so when the pads come on he doesn’t shy away from competition. He’s going to be excited to see at the U.S. Army Bowl and I’m excited to see it when the pads come on.”

One of the guys that I get info from indicated that Samuels is higher on the board than Wade.

Rodney Orr posted that one of his contacts close to Grayson HS in Ga. thinks Deangelo Gibbs (who we'd thought had been a bit off the radar for a long while now) will sign with Bama. So who knows? VERY fluid recruiting situation at DB right now.

I'd guess we sign one of Wade/Samuels at CB and one of Jacoby Stevens/Gibbs/someone else at S. I'm sure it'll all change twenty more times before February.

Wade looked really good last night against IMG.

I haven't really watched much on Samuels.

I wasn't too impressed with Gibbs' performance at the Opening. He got beat a lot.

In fairness to Gibbs, he's also grown from a lanky CB to a good sized safety. His body and skill set seems to have changed. But yeah, Wade looked very good.

Akers and my Arrows got beat last night.

There was some horrendous officiating in the game though. It's too bad they don't have replay in high school games.
