As Alabama kicked off its game week preparations for No. 15 Ole Miss, a tight end practicing with the first-team offensive line was the most noteworthy item out of Monday's practice.

Brandon Greene, the 6-foot-5, 300-pound tight end, worked as the first-team right tackle during the limited media viewing portion of Monday's practice. Greene arrived at Alabama in 2012 as a highly-regarded offensive lineman recruit, but shifted to tight end after his redshirt freshman season. During Monday's practice, Greene stepped in for Dominick Jackson, who struggled at times against Middle Tennessee State on Saturday.

Other notes:

--Reggie Ragland and Reuben Foster both looked good moving around during Monday's practice after getting banged up against MTSU. Ragland said earlier in the day he got a stinger in his shoulder, but that he felt good.

The linebackers were part of a group working on defending the read-option during drills.

--Dillon Lee had a nice one-handed catch on a fastball from defensive coordinator Kirby Smart during a drill.

--The quarterbacks worked on rolling out and throwing on the run during the media viewing portion. They were mostly making intermediate throws, and while a few sailed over receivers' heads, it was a solid effort.

--Multiple players were wearing a No. 1 jersey to replicate Ole Miss star receiver Laquon Treadwell. It's a good bet that Alabama will spend a lot of time this week putting together a strategy to slow down one of the SEC's top playmakers.

I would have thought Cotton would have seen some first team reps at RT

I thought Cotton would be a RT too but he's been LT so far

Love me some BG58.

Love Cotton too and his potential is enormous. But for this game I like the experience that BG brings to the table

Lt and RT should be interchangeable for the most part.

That is definitely not the case. LT is much more important.

correct and he has been playing LT so starting at RT should be an easy transition.

Coming out of high school, Cotton was projected as someone who could be an excellent OG or RT but had enough athleticism to possibly play LT. That's why I'm surprised he's not at RT

Conversely, Greene was supposed to be a LT and he's a RT/TE. Hope someone steps up and locks down RT

Hope greene sticks. Jackson is only going to be a guard at the next level, so he might as well play there now. Greene also gives us a little continuity as he has another season of eligibilty

Am I the only one that misses the practice thread? Kind of a one stop shop for information.

If Jackson doesn't start, whoever is his replacement has got to stop the speed rush from the right side, it's a huge problem.

Well, that's the whole reason they're trying Greene there.
