It seems like mobile QBs have had success against LSU this year.

Marshall (AU) and Prescott (MSU) went for over 100 yards on them. Even guys like Wisconsin's QB (40 yards), Driskel (UF) (70 yards), and Wallace (Ole Miss) (40 yards) were able to make some plays with their legs.

I imagine LSU is going to try and test Alabama's reshuffled o-line and rattle Sims with pressure. I think he will have some opportunities to break containment on some designed passes and scramble into LSU's secondary. I also think some well-time designed QB runs could use LSU's aggressiveness against them.

Would not be surprised if Sims sets a season high mark running the ball in this one. His season high in attempts is 8 (against UF) and yards is 54 (against A&M).

Something in the range of 10 attempts for 75 yards would be very timely in this game I think.

I expect us to throw a lot in the first half. I also expect us to force LSU to pass a lot more than they want to.

I've been waiting for them to unleash Sims. It's late enough in the rat race to let him leave absolutely everything he has on the field. If we're going out, let's do it throwing the kitchen sink at fools.

Let's hope Saban doesn't force us to go too conservative in this one. Going conservative plays into LSU hands.

Agreed and I see possibly even more yds rushing than 75

Their secondary is pretty good, but so is Amari so Chavis isn't ballsy enough to scheme a 1on1 match-up against him and LSU'S DL is horrible this year, they've gotten pushed around in every game except OM. That game seemed like an aberration for OM though, and their weakness played right into LSU'S hand.

If Chavis brings blitz packages early on, it will leave coverages open to exploit and Sims will have his chance to make them pay. That is what UF had to do, blitz more bodies to stop the run and Sims and Coop torched them for it.

Should be the match-up to watch in this game

If he's going to blitz it would be wise of him to play a zone defense behind it. Never smart to have your back 6 turn their back on a mobile quarterback. Lsu doesn't play a lot of zone either, so coverage busts could very well happen. Could be a big reason why they've struggled mightily against mobile quarterbacks, even Driskell had a decent game against them.

Zone read them to death, then hit Coop on the 9 route. Deadly.

Chavis hardly ever uses a zone with DBs and it's mostly a soft zone with a S

I welcome Coop being matched over the top with a TF like Peters

Should be a great game to see how Kiffin attacks Chavis' D

I think we're built to gash them, just like auburn and MSU did. Mobile quarterback, stable of backs, excellent wideouts. Lsu D is built to stop a one dimensional offense.

If Bama's OL is even serviceable (with 2 weeks to prepare Im expecting it to be ok) they have the chance to dominate LSUs front 7, if Sims is gaining on the ground early, Chavis will have to sacrifice the coverage to come up and make tackles. That is the mismatch Sims has shown he can expose, he just has to check out when Chavis brings the house, his blitzes aren't all that well hidden and a lot of the time like against AU it was easy for AUs OL to leave gaping holes and NM to make the right read to get in space. The coverages Chavis uses in the secondary will be most interesting to me. At the end of the OM game, the blitzes forced Bo into mistakes and their secondary took advantage and made the plays they needed to make.

Sims has to be smart and not turn it over, make everything hard for their Offense (pin them deep or at least n the 20 and make Jennings drive). The OL will blow holes especially on the interior, Rasco and the other guy like to sit and squat so a lot of ZR that is their move, that gives the QB the easy option of an inside handoff to TJ or Henry, a screen fake would be very effective against their aggressive coverages. It needs to be easy for Sims to choose the 3 plays based on coverage or at least a ZR audible in his back pocket, and an easy call signal, it will be loud.

One on one Coop can eat any DB alive and even make an over the top S look silly, Sims just has to be able to read the coverage and not force a bad throw, if it isn't there tuck it and gash them on the ground, if they use a spy, throw it to the inside slant or get OJ involved on something short. Passing opportunities will be there but so will the running lanes, he has to pick and choose. It could make the difference

I agree. Of course it's easy for me to say but I don't think we use Blake enough in the running game. I mean isn't he's a former RB. Let the man run, it works.

and not force a bad throw

He's been lucky on some of his terrible throws(DBs dropping easy picks) but I've been very impressed with Sims's ability to either put the ball where only a crimson jersey can catch it, or semi throw it away with a slim chance for only our guy to catch it.

It's mostly on the deep passes. The dropped deep pass to Coop in the UF game was beautiful. Went over the CB and snuck it in where the safety couldn't make a play. The dropped wheel route to Fowler in that game was a VERY smart and difficult pass as well.

His derps seem to come on quick passes over the middle. I assume its a mix of close quarters, little too much confidence, and not being totally confident in knowing he's gonna be throwing from a pocket that isn't easily escapable.

I'll be interested in how Kiffin decides to attack through the air. I like Sim's rolling out on the shorter passes. Stats might not back this up, but it seems to me that the middle of the field just isn't somewhere that Sims can get rhythm from.

If what I've been reading about Alabama this year is true, then I hope our other receivers step up. The offense needs to draw attention away from Cooper. the more Alabama can distribute the ball, the better. Then LSU can't gameplan on stopping one or two particular players.

Another reason I wouldn't want Sims throwing the ball much is that the secondary Alabama is playing might be even better than Ole Miss's, and we know how that game went.

I expect the read option to be employed a bit during the game Sat. Wish we had the homerun threat of Drake on the field. He's the perfect back for that play.

If LSU doubles Coop, then I'm hoping we can incorporate OJ Howard into the gameplan to see if the LSU linebackers can cover in space
