Ivan "the Hatchett" Matchett. Was highly rated in that vaunted 2007 class. Transferred to USA I think.

I forgot about this guy. Yeah, he was fat and could not throw the football over 15 yards. I remember watching him in the A-Day game trying to figure out how the hell he got a scholarship.

a blast from the past but Linnie Patrick from Jasper never got out of the Bear's dog house but he was a stud coming out of HS

Bear said he could be the best running back he'd ever had if he would have just worked at it but he was lazy.

the year Andre Smith was signed there were 3 other "studs". One may have been the kid from mtnbrook already mentioned. All were OL. The other was from Shades Valley, and one was from Va.(Pretty sure of the state). We were the #1 OL class and all but 1 was a bust. The VA kid got in trouble with off field issues and went home to momma. The other 2 never panned out in what NS was looking for in OL.

Matchett was a 3-star guy recruit.
Did pretty well in the A-day game but ended up gettung injured.
I thought he took a medical scholarship.

Damn you I read the whole thread and didn't think he would get brought up.

Star was from my county (Lake Worth HS). Saw him a couple times. In no way was he worth the rating he received. Was never impressed.

He hurt his neck or back his freshman year and was a medical hardship.

Someone earlier mentioned Chris Black if he doesn't step up this year....I'd say the same thing about Reuben Foster.

I wonder how an athlete like BJ Scott ended up as a bust. He played one year at WR, one year as a CB and then he was gone. I hate to insinuate that he was dumb but he had so much potential that it almost had to be a mental thing.

Albert Means
Spent $200k on him, got put on probation, nearly got the death penalty, Fat Phil got to laugh his arse off at us, and a guy was killed, I mean fall UP some stairs, because of it.
And the guy never played a down for us.

Means actually played in the 2000 season.

I was thinking he transferred before playing, either way we didn't get our money's worth.

brandon gibson was a 4 star and saw little to no playing time until his senior year if I recall. And even then I am not sure he played up to a 4 star billing

Dude was a beast in practice and spring games, but just could never put it together in actual games. I wish so bad that he would have scored that TD in the 2011 NCG against LSU. Hit him in the hands on the goal line, but Eric Reid knocked the shite out of him and he dropped it. I think Reid almost knocked himself out on that play too.
