Any of you guys going to Athens this year? How do you rate this road trip among the SEC schools?

I am. It's one of the 4 SEC stadiums I haven't been to yet.

Never been to a game there but I've been to Athens several times. Awesome town.

Saw Georgia play South Carolina there a few years ago but didn't really get to go out and experience Athens afterwards.

That changes in October.

I was there for the black out in 08 and the game in 03 when we gave up 40 points in the first half. Fun experience in 08 after the game but the fans were pretty bad before. Very fun town though so it's a great trip, i'd put it in the top 5 as far as SEC trips go

I'll never forget the Georgia fan pouring beer on Paul Finebaum, while on air, after the 2008 game.

Have any of y'all been to College Station? I'll probably be working in Houston around then, and I'm thinking about going to that one.

Love Athens but they may have some of the worse fans I have experienced after a loss. Great game day atmosphere and college town though.

My parents are moving out there and my sister already lives there, so I'll probably be going to that one too

For all the love Athens gets, I don't see it. Been there a ton as my wife's family are all dawgs and based there with season tickets, etc. Stadium is outdated, fans are not nice, and the town is about like any other town with bars and restaurants. A big meh for me.

Too many hills in Athens for my liking. After a day of drinking in the sun the last thing I wanna do is hike up a 70 degree incline.

Athens is probably the best college town in the SEC. Lots of great bars and restaurants. Very pretty campus and the stadium is a great setting.

But the Dawg fans are terrible. Very arrogant, especially the younger crowd. They also trash their campus and as others said, the walks between points on campus are not the easiest.

I will be. Staying the night with my friend, who's a UGA grad, in Athens. We'll be drinking on Broad Street from the morning to the end of the game.

I hear this alot, and I just don't see it. It's about like most any other nice college campus and town. Nothing spectacular IMO. The stadium is outdated and laid out poorly as far as concourses, restrooms and concessions. It's not closed in on one side because of the bridge and they have a ghetto looking third deck on just one side that is so high you have to duck when a plane flies over. Again, to each their own...but Athens is no better or worse than just about any other SEC campus IMO and Sanford is not in the same league as the top stadiums in the SEC anymore. Plus, as others have said...their fans pretty much suck.

while i've never been to athens, my brother was there for the blackout game. his take, he swore he'd never go back to athens again it was so bad. our family is here in the tri-state area of al, tn and ga. so we've dealt with ga fans our whole lives. but hes aid it was worse in athens. after the game the ga fans were trying to start fights, it was bad. the ga fans around here are difficult to deal with on a good day. so dealing with them in athens after a loss like that, nah no thanks.

I heard more bad stories than I can remember of incidents that occurred before and after the actual game. Hell, I remember after the 2007 game in Tuscaloosa their fans were unbearable.

There are some good UGA posters on this site though.

I've been to several games in Athens...but tried to go to the Bama game in 2003. Couldn't find any decent ticket prices outside the stadium (was with my UGA bro-in-law) so went home and watched it on TV....but just being on campus with a Bama shirt on, I got heckled...had one fan run by and slap me on the chest, etc. And that's when they were alot better than us. Hate to see them now, especially if we beat them. Plus they will stick Bama fans up in that 3rd deck, so bring some high powered binoculars with you.
