Hunter Johnson was saying on Twitter than a new basketball arena is in the works and would be done in the next ten years. I want it done sooner, but Hunter is in the know and it's nice to see a new basketball facility being discussed.
In Byrne's introductory press conference, if he says he wants a new arena within 5 years, I'll immediately donate $1000.

But I do think we should be a trailblazer in the SEC and be the first NCAA hockey team.

If UAH can be competitive, then UA can only do better.

Our club team has been loosely following the Penn State model. They made the jump to NCAA D1 a few years ago. They just got their first #1 ranking.

Wow I know it's a pipe dream, but that would be so bad arse if we could copy that.

I think hockey would do surprisingly well with the fans, especially if the University started promoting it.
When I was in my teens, we would always go to watch the Birmingham hockey team. The games were a lot of fun.

Would it be self-sufficient?

If not, I don't see why another sport should be brought on to grow this socialist style system which uses football (sometimes basketball) to pay for everything else.

I used to watch these guys. The guy on the left, Dave Hanson, played for the Bulls the last two years in the WHA. The other two Slapshot "Hanson Brothers" were Jeff and Steve Carlson. Steve played for Edmonton and Jeff played for the WHA Minnesota franchise before that team folded.

Alabama getting NCAA hockey would be huge.

I can't find if any schools make money off of it, but hockey is one of the few sports that actually brings in revenue.

When they have those state by state rankings of highest paid coaches, isn't there a NE state that has the hockey coach as highest paid?
It would never make money like basketball, but maybe could break even.

The Thanksgiving Night Massacre.

Dave Hanson was actually a pretty decent player. One night in the 1978-79 season...the last of the WHA...Hanson got in a fight, but for some reason the other guy got more penalty minutes. You could see Hanson and the other guy jawing at each other across the scorer's booth. Hanson's penalty ended, he skates up the ice, and when he got in front of the other box, he jumps in the other penalty box and starts kicking the other guy's arse. The Bulls were a helluva lot of fun to watch.

I think the Bulls had every brawler, enforcer, and cast off thug from the NHL. Guys like Gilles "Bad News" Bilodeau and Steve "Demolition" Durbano.

I believe the Bulls held the season record for most penalty box time, surpassing Philly's Broad Street Bullies.
