Are you prepared for a freshman QB?

From all accounts it's looking more likely with each practice that Barnett will win the job...though he may not start in the opener.

He's apparently more consistent than Coker and Cornwell, and has a better arm than the other guys.

Also, the news that Kiffin is simplifying the signaling of the plays from the sideline (those dumbass pictures like aubie uses) makes me think he's preparing for the inevitable.

I'm not sure if I should be excited about Barnett's talent, or disappointed in the QB group.

Hmmm we will see. Dont think they will put him in there this year he is just too thin. But looks like he will be the QB in 2016. Coker wins this one by default. Surprised Cornwell has been this bad.

I'm down for it. Take a few lumps, better in the long run.

This is getting silly.

Coker and Cornwell have both been leading the camps per reports. All three of them have fantastic arms so I doubt if Barnett is able to throw 3-4 more yards it means anything. They've got a lot more time in the system and have the physical build that Barnett lacks.

Simplifying the signs means nothing. It's a standard approach for HUNH offenses across the nation.

Absolutely no chance we'll start a true freshman QB, and believing this to be likely, or even a possibility, based on a handful of tweets from journalists who want attention by referencing a supposed higher level of consistency in skeleton or 7-on-7 drills is asinine beyond belief and a sign that a person has never played the sport.

Maybe, and this is a gigantic maybe, and potentially only in a parallel universe where Coker and Cornwell both come down with necrotizing encephalitis, and Barnett plays flawlessly in both fall scrimmages, could we even remotely begin to suggest that we'd see a freshman QB.

Coker gets it this year with a little Barnett here and there for experience. Cornwell will transfer to Oklahoma. Barnett starts in 2016.

Cornwell wouldn't transfer until spring 2017, if he has the classes to graduate early, because of Baker Mayfield. He'll likely stay and fight for the job next fall.

Yeah I would assume Cornwell would at least fight for it but I think barnett's speed, mind set, decision making ability, and his arm strength will be more complimenting than Cornwell. Cornwell has a cannon but so does Barnett. They're probably about the same in that department. Everywhere else Barnett is better.

First scrimmage will tell us a lot. If Coker/Cornwell struggle and Barnett does great, suddenly the possibility of him starting becomes very, very real. I actually think the Wisconsin game is a good opener for a young QB. Yes Wisconsin will probably have a good defense, but with their offense vs our defense (especially our DL) I think we're gonna get a lot of offensive snaps in that opener, which gives a lot of opportunities for a young guy in his first game as a True Freshman QB.

I'm sure the plan is to redshirt him. I think it would take something incredible to deviate from that plan

100% incorrect. Coker had a horrible day yesterday and the day before. Same for Cornwell.

Barnett and Morris are out front and it's trending towards Morris.

Barnett made some throws and escaped the pocket that no other QB we have can do.

HOWEVER, none of this means anything until the scrimmages on the 15th and 22nd are complete. After that point you will see an order start to appear.

Coker may redeem himself or opposite in the scrimmage.

Also Kiffin is highly distressed over this QB issue per one of my sources. He jumped all over Coker yesterday.

You can't be serious. Dude is like 150 pounds. He isn't ready.

He's bigger than Brodie was...and faster.

Dude has a legit shot at starting this season. it shocks me that people think otherwise.

Agreed. He is a serious talent. Probably the most pure talent we've had at Alabama in the Saban era. He might look "weak" or whatever, but the kid has been busting his arse in the weightroom. He is strong enough at this point if I had to guess.

I do think him getting hurt is a real concern because at best he looks the 200 pounds we list him at, but with that said he's still a phenomenal talent and if he is showing out in camp, play the guy.

Unless he's back there getting pounded because the OL is letting everyone through, I really don't put as much stock into a QBs weight as other people do. If he's the best option, that shouldn't be a hold up. But, that's just my opinion and my paycheck from the UA AD totals $0.

Welcome

Yeah, hopefully our pass protection will be stout. C-Rob and Kelly should be fine. Dom Jackson has had pass protection problems before, we'll see how he has developed.

Not sure about the Guards' ability in pass pro.

Still, as long as Barnett slides when he runs and throws the ball away when he can't run, he can be fine. Though those two are easier said than done in the heat of the game.

The poster above is correct about Morris. Kiffin does not want Coker or Cornwell. He doesn't think they grasp the offense enough to be good decision makers. Barnett is the future for sure but don't be surprised if Saban pulls a fast one and it's Morris against Wisconsin.

I agree. Weight isn't as big of a concern for me either as long as he isn't 6'3 160. Who was the last QB that got hit too hard and missed games because he was too skinny? I can't remember anyone, though I could certainly be wrong.
