Why does Kiffin pussyfoot around with finesse plays when Bama has a clear physical edge?

His penchant for getting too cute killed a couple of drives.

Saban obviously has him on a very long leash, or no leash at all.

I think he's trying to get other playmakers involved but it just kinda backfires. We aren't throwing the ball downfield well for various reasons and it has made it tough. I've seen several drives though where we have tried to pound it and the defense KNOWS it's coming.

Only thing Kiffin did that I didn't like was calling the pass to Kief and running the shuffle sweep to Ridley.

Kief isn't the type of WR you throw to in the flat and we have only blocked the shuffle sweep once or twice all year.

The WR screens and jet sweeps-I get it. Trying to spread the field out.

But we didn't need to any of that in the first half. We were gashing them bad just handing it off to Henry. I think that it could have gotten way out of hand had we just handed off to Henry every single down.

That jet sweep......Damn. 99% of the time it is a disaster. If Kiffin is going to run the jet sweep it needs to be a setup play for a double reverse sweep later in the game or something. At least if you get the defense committing to one side of the field, you have a chance for a huge play on a reverse to the other side. Maybe a wide receiver pass.... I dunno.... Maybe that is something in the bag they have been saving for someone like LSU..... I may have said too much... I'll shut up now.

every bit of the above issues start with the o line. cam seems a step slow this year. kelly is still kelly. good at times not so good at others. the others are, well, getting better. suffice to to say, as the o line goes so goes the offense

It is play calling, but also getting the play off under 3 seconds allows the DLine to get a good jump, they understand when the play is in a rush situation.

We have to get the play off faster, and too many players are out of postion and have to be moved.

Yeah there is still too much disorganization presnap. Alabama was lucky as hell to get off and execute the 4th and 2 play yesterday. I think the main reason it worked was because Texas A&M was certain Alabama was gonna call a timeout with all the chaos that was ensuing.

Exactly what I was thinking...it has to be some sort of set up for a trick play for someone like LSU

1. Our offensive line gets beat way too frequently

2. Kiffin likes to "mix it up" even when mixing it up is not necessary or needed.

Retire the Jet Sweep, every single team we play does film study. They are 100% ready for it every time and it hasn't worked since like Week 2.

Had them by the throat. Bad offensive playcalling allowed them to regain momenum during the 3rd qtr.

There's plenty of room to bitch.

Quit being a pussy.

I dont' understand this mentality. We won by 20 because our defense returned 3 INT's for TD's.

We obviously played awesome in many aspects, but we also played quite poorly in others. That's just reality.

Our punt unit might as well have be trying to throw the game, for instance.

The play calling wasn't ideal, but guys have to block for any play to work most of the time.

Getting hit 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage doesn't help when you are trying to gain positive yardage. See Mark Ingram's first 2 seasons in New Orleans as an example of this.

They returned a punt for a TD in the 2nd the get within 15. We fumbled the kickoff and started on our own 8. We got TWO false start penalties and punted. They missed a 55 yarder at the end of the half. 28-13

First drive of 3rd: 2 yard pass, 1 yard run, 3 yard pass. Punt.

A&M goes 3 & out. Cyrus Jones fumbles punt, A&M recovers. Scores TD (only offensive TD) three plays later. 28-20

Bama drive: 9 yard pass, Henry -2 yard rush, incomplete pass to Stewart. A&M blocks punt. Two incompletitions followed by a sack and they miss a FG.

Bama goes on a 13 play, 51 yard drive. After getting 2nd & 2 at the 12 Henry then rushes for -1 and -2 yards. Field goal kicked. 31-20

A&M goes 3 & out.

Bama throws a 28 yard pass to Ridley, followed by Henry for 5, -3, and an incomplete pass to Stewart. Punt.

A&M throws interception.

Bama goes on 7 play, 25 yard FG drive. Gets 1st & goal on the 8: Henry -2, Coker run for 8, Henry for -1. FG, 34-20 11:17 left in game at that point.

But go on about bad play calling giving A&M momentum.

One thing Ohio State did so well last year and they are still doing it is that they can run inside, outside, and they can throw. Alabama can run the play action but sooner or later someone will slow that down or stop it. I think he's been trying all season long to develop some additional abilities. It's hard to watch. I hope it eventually works. Currently it's either the outside blocking or it's just too easy to sniff out and they just run to the ball.

I think everyone in the stadium and watching on TV saw that play coming when he came in motion, because he had just run the same damn play the prior series, but with Ridley. The first one went for a nice gain.

That play almost develops as a run/pass option for the QB to decide, so I wonder if Coker misread something on the second one.

Anyway, I thought the play calling was fine Saturday. We were hamstrung in the 2nd half without Kelly, and as I recall that's when a bulk of our negative plays on 1st down came. Can't run Henry up the middle every play, and saw some nice play calls getting the ball to Howard, and that sideline fade to Ridley was a great call, and a beautiful throw.

Yep.

Kelly got hurt right at the end of the first half.

Number of times Henry was tackled for loss in the first half: 0

Number of times Henry was tackled for loss in the second half: 6
