Who will it be after Bill Battle retires?
Ozzie Newsome would be great but would be a pipedream

This will get hated on, but I would be happy with Mack Brown. He seems to be very good at handling boosters and being the CEO type which is what the AD job mostly entails. I also think he would be very good at insulating a struggling coach from angry boosters.

Ideally, a former Alabama player who has gone on to be a successful coach or businessman would be nice, but I don't want to limit myself to that.

I wonder how Saban could handle dealing with other sports or would their be co-ADs. One for football and one for the remaining sports

Guys talking about NS as AD are not right mentally. This is not a skill set he would enjoy. That is not to say he would not do a good job. He does not like the talk circuit and shaking hands with wealthy donors. He wants to do FB to the best and have folks leave him alone. He would have to kiss too many asses and that would not appeal to him

I think that is largely the plan

the AD of today requires a business person to help run a 100 million dollar operation. It will probably be someone no one has heard of unless they promote from within

I just can't see him ever being an AD after retiring. I don't think he'd like all the schmoozing and butt kissing that goes along with that role.

I figure he'll be an analyst on ESPN/Gameday after he hangs it up. He'd do a great job and would be a lot less of a time commitment (more time at the lake).

I have heard witnesses to conversations involving PBJR say that there will be a push to make him AD and promote Kirby to HC. Not saying that will happen, but they will make Saban tell them no before they look elsewhere.

Not really. Don't forget Nick's Kids. Helluva lot of schmoozing involved with that.

well you are going to argue i see. Mrs. Terri has a huge roll in NIck's kids that takes a lot of the day to day stuff off Nick. Either way NS is a ball coach and doing Admin work would more than likely not be his cup of tea. An Analyst on EsPN would be something he might consider since he would only have to work half a year and make upwards of several million a year. He would be drawing a huge pension from Alabama when he competes 10 years. Money wont be an issue but being an AD would highly surprise me.

Saban has been very keen on making sure he can do whatever he can to help all of the sports teams be the best they can be here.

He has shown that he is willing to get help from other sources when he needs it (like bringing in opposing coaches), so I don't think he would be too out of his depth if needed to reach out for help when it comes to hiring a women's basketball coach for example.

He has shown how much he believes in the necessity to have top of the line facilities.

I just think he is way to competitive to become some member of the media.
