I figured we could use a thread to discuss any moves and draft landing spots for the former Tide players.

I'm interested in seeing who all makes it into the 1st round this year. I'd say Allen, Foster, and Howard are the only sure things. Williams, Humphrey, Robinson, and Anderson have all seen varying degrees of first round talk, and I think Tim Williams SHOULD go in the first, but we'll see what happens. I don't see Anderson unless it's to New England, but even then it's a long shot. But, we have a long way to go between now and draft night.

I'm hoping AJ gets moved so he can start. Watching some of the throws he made when he came in for Dalton a couple of years ago, he can spin it. With more experience I think he can be solid. Cleveland could be a landing spot with the Hue Jackson connection, and I don't think any of us want him to go there, but if they put some pieces around him maybe it could work. Lacy may be on the move, it'd be cool to see AJ and Lacy end up on the same team.

Just please God don't let it be Cleveland.

Hightower & Dre are FAs. Anyone else of note? Upshaw signed 1 year deal with Atl, so technically he will be a FA too, but I don't expect his deal to be huge.

Hightower is gonna get 5 years and $60M+
Dre is gonna get 4 years at $30M+ (I hope)

Upshaw may get a 1-2 year deal worth about $1.5-2M per year.

I've seen some love for Arderius Stewart recently. If he runs fast at the combine, like 4.37ish fast, he will get first round attention.

He could easily run that fast, when healthy he was greased lightening. At 6'2 200ish lbs, his speed, strength, and size combo is hard to find. I never really realized how many tackles he broke, but I watched some film on him the other day, and more than once he broke 4 or 5 tackles after the catch. Part of that is he reads defenses well and takes good angles, forcing arm tackles. He also has a huge catch radius, has proven he can make the contested catch, has excellent body control, can finesse the sideline, and is a fantastic blocker who loves to finish. He has even won 1-on-1 with LBs.

But....he isn't laterally quick, seems to have stiff hips, and occasionally gets the dropsies on inside slants and outs.

I know it's been said many times before, but Dalvin Tomlinson will be an absolute steal with where they're projecting him to be drafted.

Dre K did well last season, so Bengals might resign or use a transition tag on him. Same for Hightower in terms of using a transition tag, but he's earned demanding a higher contract and should become a bigger priority for the Pats to resign.

Raiders could use a tackle, so if Cam Robinson falls, I would like to snag him. Out RT Austin Howard was awful, and Donald Penn's contract is up in '18.

The Patriots have some ridiculous cap space number this offseason. I think it's like $75 million or something. If they want to keep DH they can afford him.

They could also use an Eddie Lacy type of back.

I think I saw Marlon mocked to Arizona the other day. That'd be fantastic, IMO. CB is arguably the hardest position for a rookie, and having a guy like Patrick Peterson across from you is a blessing on the field and in terms of learning.

Lacy would be good, but I think we could resign Latavius Murray back for less and get similar production. I would like a big bruiser like Lacy, but getting guys like Jalen Richard (UDFA) and DeAndre Washington (5th round) last year kinda shows how easy it is to find a decent back in the draft. Murray was a 6th round pick if I'm not mistaken.

As for Humphrey, I hope he transitions well. Love the guy, but he could have used another year here.

Julio the best at in/out routes and post routes

quote:

On these routes, Jones came up with a reception 31 of the 35 times he was thrown the ball. The 31 catches gained 534 yards - 61 more yards than any other NFL receiver gained on in and out routes even though the No. 2 player, Julian Edelman of the New England Patriots was thrown to 21 more times than Jones was.

quote:

Jones had 13 receptions for 392 yards on the 20 balls thrown his way on post routes.

Eddie Lacy is a free agent, too.

I like GB as a franchise, but maybe a change of scenery would help him (or, just not eating so much). Don't know where he'd go though.

BB knows how important he is to that defense. He even said that Hightower's strip sack was the key turning point of the game.

Hightower is important because his abilities as a rusher covers up an otherwise average passrush.

Why? The Vikings cut him because he cost way too much for a soon to be 32 year old RB.

Eh I know, but I always thought AP would take a pay cut to stay with the Vikings. Kinda hard to register that he'll be playing in a different jersey.

NE informs Hightower that they won't use a franchise tag on him.

Packers coach on re-signing Eddie Lacy: 'This is business, so it's never easy' | AL.com
quote:

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy wants the Packers to re-sign running back Eddie Lacy, but he understands that might not happen.

The former Alabama standout suffered an ankle injury that required surgery and ended his 2016 season after five games. Green Bay lost four of its next five games after Lacy went out, then ran off eight straight victories to reach the NFC championship game with converted wide receiver Ty Montgomery at running back.

Including the playoffs, Montgomery ran for 548 yards and five touchdowns on 102 carries and caught 54 passes for 425 yards in 2016.

Montgomery is the only running back that the Packers have under contract for the 2017 season.

"Love to have Eddie back," McCarthy saidduring a press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday. "Eddie's working through his rehab. He's working down at the University of Alabama. I had a chance to visit with him about a week or so back.

"But once again, we're in this business phase. I really don't have anything for you. We want all of our free agents back. They're our guys. That's the way we view it from our program to them. But this is business, so it's never easy."

Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson also said the Packers would like to re-sign Lacy.

"It's a process, but that's our intention," Thompson said during a Wednesday press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine. "And it's our intention every year, and I stand on this podium, I think, every year, and say the same thing: Our best intentions would be to sign as many of our own players as we can and keep it together."

If he doesn't re-sign with the Packers by 3 p.m. CST March 9, Lacy will become a free agent after playing out the four-year, $3,392,412 contract that he signed after Green Bay selected him off Alabama's 2012 BCS national-championship team in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

The sports-financial web site spotrac.com pegged Lacy's market value as a free agent at a two-year contract worth $5,716,992.

Thompson said it's not unusual for the Packers to re-sign players just as they are about to become free agents.

"Once you get to this particular point, there's very little risk of the player getting injured, so there's not a push on the side of the player to hurry up and get a deal done," Thompson said. "But at the same time, sometimes they would prefer to stay, and deals get done earlier than we think. It's worked both ways. ... Over the years we've probably signed several right at the start of free agency. My guess is that's what's going to happen this year."

Lacy ran for 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns and earned a Pro Bowl invitation as a rookie. In 2014, he rushed for 1,139 yards and nine touchdowns and caught 42 passes for 427 yards and four TDs.

In 2015, Lacy slumped to 758 yards and three touchdowns on the ground and 20 receptions for 188 yards and two TDs. After the season, McCarthy said Lacy had to report for the 2016 campaign in better shape.

In 2016, Lacy had run for 360 yards on 71 carries - a career-high 5.1 yards per carry - when he went down for the season.
