It seemed at times last year that Hale was the only one trying to do anything. I like his game better than Kessens, but Kessens still has tons of value. He can defend the post and offers some scoring on offensive end. Hale, Kessens and Taylor all have unique skill sets from one another so you'd think any two would be able to play well together.

good pick up 4 AJ. Eubanks and Ingram know how to penetrate the d and 2 3 zone which we struggle with last year. alot ppl r sleeping on Ingram I mean he was Mr. Alabama RT!!!

@TheRecruitScoop: Alabama hosted 2017 SG J.J. Smith of Southern Stampede (GA) on an unofficial visit today, per his coach.

PG - Coleman/Ingram/Obasohan
SG - Obasohan/Eubanks/Austin
SF - Norris/Hale/Eubanks
PF - Kessens/Hale
C - Taylor/Hall
This is more what I would do, than a prediction. I like Hale coming off the bench to provide some scoring with that second unit (granted he's improved back to freshman form). I think Retin's going to have a big year and might be our go to guy like Randolph was last year. I went with Coleman over Ingram because he has a better handle and is a better penetrator. Coleman just needs to do a better job of selecting his shots and committing himself to the PG position because the talent and playmaking ability is there. Norris is going to be our Marksman and I could see him playing some at the 4 as well with his rebounding ability. We need Eubanks to come in and give good minutes. We don't have many proven shooters so we're going to need his help to break the zone. If we don't have a couple other consistent deep threats other than Norris, Avery might get a taste of why the zone is such a pain in the arse in college. Kessens gives us our go to post scorer and Taylor gives us our rim protection (and another potential post scorer). I really like Hall and think that he could push both Jimmy and Kessens for PT. He's likely our best rebounder.

no way. i like Kessens as a passer, but he gets destroyed by good competition. he needs to work on his baseline jumper because he gets in trouble when he tries to bang. Taylor is much better in the paint. If his game develops he could be our go to guy down low. Hale and Taylor both need a lot of work on their passing. Hale is really talented but his head was up his arse last year.

Naw I think Kessens has the skills. I always wondered why we would go to Taylor over him. Hopefully AJ can get him to develop.

He frustrates me sometimes defensively (falling asleep and needless fouls), but he's our best low-post scorer. Taylor has a lot of potential on that end and I've berated people for overblowing his lack of offense, but all he has right now is a hook shot. It's a very mechanical and awkward looking hook shot, but it's a shockingly efficient one. Regardless, Kessens post game is far smoother than Taylor's and he has a greater variety of moves. You can't be a go to post scorer when you have only one average post move. Kessens didn't get to display his moves that often with Grant's offense not looking at the post (complete 360 since Green's departure) and Kessens' ridiculous inability to stay out of foul trouble.

Taylor is the only one who finishes strong at the rim. he doesnt have near the range that the Kessens or Hale do. but he's the most efficient in the paint (i havent actually looked at the numbers). Combine that with his defense and i think Taylor is clearly our best big.

I think Kessens has the skills to be better and at times he looked better IMO.

I agree with you. If Kessens could stay healthy, that'd help his game a ton. That's his biggest struggle.

Agreed, and the numbers back it, but an efficient scorer doesn't mean they're a go-to scorer. Look at NBA bigs like Tyson Chandler and Deandre Jordan. They shoot 65+ FG% and 70+ FG% respectively, but they're FAR from being go-to scorers.

Once again, I agree. At least until I see Hall play at the collegiate level or Kessens shows me otherwise.

Hall wont be our best big that's for sure. He is more of an athletic big. I know its probably new to him learning how to box out because he wondered around the perimeter a lot in high school.

I agree with you on that. Its like we always have players that look like they don't give a shite. Just going by facial expressions.

Will be interesting to see how the new guys develop. I think with the freshmen coming in and the guys from last year's class to go along with Nick King, we'll have a solid foundation for the 2016-2017 season. Really excited to see what we look like this year and what AJ runs

For someone who wondered out to the perimeter he had a massive amount of rebounds. Boxing out might be new to him, but it's going to be pretty new to all of our returning bigs as well judging from our constant abuse on the boards. I don't think Hall could be any worse on the boards than any of our other bigs have been.

He is 6'10 lol. He probably didn't play against nobody ever that size in high school. I think he will be really good eventually but I think he is going to have to get use to banging down low. I agree though I think all of the guys are going to have to learn to box out lol.

Kessens? Seemed like he was one of our most inconsistent players last year.

I can't remember the last time we had a big man that averaged almost 20 rebounds in HS. Jimmie averaged about 13, if I remember correctly. I hate to be a stat hound, but Hall's numbers in HS are pretty amazing. 23 pts, 19 boards, and 12 blocks a game is pretty damn impressive regardless of his size. The only thing I'm worried about with him right now is his body not being ready. Once he gets some girth to him (might take a while), I think he'll be the best big man we've had in a while.

Yea I agree he is super athletic. Runs the court like a deer.
