I went to the opening practice yesterday. Not much to report as they didn't do a whole lot and even if they had - it would still just be the first practice of the fall.

But I liked the temp of the practice. It was laid back but not lax.

If I had to gripe about something it would be that the coaches took some "cool" or historic numbers as if it matters what number the coaches wear (Bohannon #6, Jackson #15, Zulli #3) Of course Bennett is sporting is former #41. But that doesn't matter.

We'll probably suck this year on account of pitching (2-3 min of the 17 listed on the fall roster won't pitch this spring) and otherwise so many young arms.

We should score some runs. Offense should be pretty good. Defense should be a bit better than last year but hopefully a big step up at catcher. Malkin is a big kid behind the plate.

Watching BP, Malkin, Taylor and Cody Henry all dropped bombs. Hunter Alexander (who is huge - needs to drop a few lbs) also banged out a couple. Jett Manning looked to have a good spraying type swing. Breaux looks able to cover some ground.

If nothing else - this team will have a lot of versatility in terms of the lineup.

Have you heard anything from people about the job Bohannon is doing or how he is recruiting?

Good info. Excited to see what Bohannon can do with the program.

I just want to see improvement and entertaining offense this year. Beating the in state mid major schools would be a good start. No more losing to Samford and Jacksonville State.

Not going to always beat Samford/Jacksonville State. We lose too many in recent years no doubt but it blows my mind how some people act as if we should never lose to in-state mid-majors.

For example,

Just this past year,

LSU lost 2 MW games to New Orleans. 2 to Tulane. 1 to South Alabama. 1 to McNeese State

Florida lost 2 to Florida Gulf Coast, 1 to Jacksonville, 1 to Central Florida and 1 to South Florida.

Some of progams are much better than our in-state midmajors for sure - but it happens. It's baseball, not football or men's basketball.

Nice report. Thanks for posting.

Just saw on the roster than Alexander is listed at 6'2, 250. Jeez.

I don't think people feel we should never lose to them, but they've been kicking our asses pretty good in those mid-week games for a few years now.

Losing to them consistently is a problem, but the majority of the time, those teams have their starting pitcher out there, where as we're playing our 3rd or 4th. Nothing major.

And those sizes on the roster aren't exactly accurate i in many instances, but in Alexander's case - he looked every bit of 250 Monday. I'm guessing he'll be a bit slimmer come the start of spring if you know what I mean.

For example, Cobie appears to have shed lbs but lol at him being 180 as he's listed.

They're usually using a 4th starter type vs. us as they're trying to win more important conference games on the weekend as well. And losing too many MW games kept us from making the NCAAT Gaspard's last year, I guess my point is some people think that because those in-state mid-majors beat us/Auburn in some midweek games or esp if they win their conference and make the NCAAT - people act like they're "better." Well that's relative - if we played a Sun Belt type schedule with our SEC talent we'd be winning the league if that makes sense?

I believe Bohanon will be successful at Bama...and that the results will really show in year 2 recruiting wise.
I like how he and the staff seem to be evaluating and identifying talent, especially the in-state kids. Hopefully Bohanon will be able to show the instate kids Bama is a program on the rise under his leadership and slow down other out of state programs from cherry picking top talent from this state.

Any updates on how fall practice is going? Have they had any intersquads yet?

Would like to know if we're going to have any power hitters this year. We were also 114th last year in fielding , so I hope that gets improved.
