The 24 hour rule is in effect.

24 hours have come and gone and Alabama fans have had time to let the 2016 season sink in. For the most part, I'd say fans are taking the ending pretty well. Though most of us will not wallow in the misery, rather celebrate the good, it is time to close the book on the 2016-17 season and look forward. The future is already here in the embodiment of some highly heralded early enrollees...

GOOD NEWS-BAD NEWS

SECONDARY

The good news, almost everyone will be back. The bad news, Marlon Humphrey will likely go pro. Many prognosticator have him as a first round pick. It is yet to be announced if he comes back for one more year of glory.

Leaving: Eddie Jackson.

Underclassman possibly leaving for NFL: Humphrey.

Returning: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ronnie Harrison, Anthony Averett, Hootie Jones, Deionte Thompson, Levi Wallace, Jared Mayden, Aaron Robinson, Nigel Knott.

New guys: Chadarius Townsend (EE), Kyriq McDonald (EE), Xavier McKinney (4-star), Daniel Wright (4-star).

Outlook: Pretty darn good. Bama has already adjusted to life without Eddie. Now they just need to replace Marlon... maybe?

DEFENSIVE LINE

Yikes. Alabama is losing some big guys to the NFL, but Da'Ron Payne is poised to become the star of the D-Line.

Leaving: Jonathan Allen, Dalvin Tomlinson.

Underclassmen possibly leaving for NFL: Nobody.

Returning: Payne, Da'Shawn Hand, Josh Frazier, Raekwon Davis, Quinnen Williams, Jamar King, Johnny Dwight, O.J. Smith.

New guys: Isaiah Buggs (EE), Akial Byers (4-star), recruit to be named later (possibly 5-star Aubrey Solomon or 4-star LaBryan Ray?)

Outlook: Hand and Frazier have a lot of experience. Word is that Quinnen could've played this year but asked to be redshirted so he could hone his skills. The staff is excited about his prospects. Reports have said that Buggs is already impressing. Is Jamar ready?

LINEBACKERS

Leaving: Reuben Foster, Tim Williams, Ryan Anderson.

Underclassmen possibly leaving for NFL: Nobody.

Returning: Shaun Dion Hamilton, Rashaan Evans, Anfernee Jennings, Christian Miller, Terrell Hall, Keith Holcombe, Keaton Anderson, Mack Wilson, Ben Davis, Mekhi Brown, Joshua McMillon, Shawn Jennings, Jamey Mosley.

New guys: Dylan Moses (EE), VanDarius Cowan (4-star),  Markail Benton (4-star), Christopher Allen (4-star).

Outlook: This one is gonna hurt, but HOLY MOLEY look at the young'ns coming up! Hamilton and Evans bring strong leadership.

PUNTING

Leaving: Long snapper Cole Mazza.

Underclassmen possibly leaving for NFL: Nobody.

Returning: Punter JK Scott, some walk-ons.

New guy: Long snapper Thomas Fletcher.

Outlook: Mazza was absolutely flawless for four years at the Capstone. He was well worth the scholarship. Let's hope Fletcher, the nation's #2 LS, can continue that trend. Scott, an All-American as a freshman and 2nd team All-American this season, will be a senior.

COACHES

Jeremy Pruitt had an excellent first season back at the Capstone as the Defensive Coordinator. He has a firm grasp on the defense and will work to make it better. You never know when a coach will come and go but anticipate

Karl Dunbar (DL), Derrick Ansley (DB), and Tosh Lupoi (OLB) to be sticking around.

COMING TOMORROW: 2017 Offense.

People keep saying this but I still don't see it. My Football IQ isn't the best but I don't see how Marlon is considered a first round pick.

Yeah, the DL is concerning for sure. We will be fine at LB and DB.

Buggs is going to help a lot at DE. Maybe Bama gets another JR college DL or maybe they get a grad transfer.

I thought Jamar King would have helped more. I hope Buggs is as advertised

Haven't seen a lot of talk about him but Levi Wallace was outstanding in his limited role this year.

Second time someone on here forgot he is only a junior and will return unless someone knows something most of us do not.

Probably just a mistake in the defense article not mentioning Tony Brown. The more detailed offense and defense article did:
quote:

The cornerback position is a bit of an unknown for a few more weeks. Both Marlon Humphrey and/or Anthony Averett might declare for the NFL draft, but we don’t know yet. Assuming they stay, the Tide will be in a good position in the secondary next year. They’ll hold down their spots at corner while returning senior Tony Brown will be challenged by rising sophomore Shyheim Carter for the Star nickel back. Jared Mayden, Nigel Knott, and Aaron Robinson will all be in their second season and much more ready to provide the key depth needed in the secondary. Alabama also adds Chadarius Townsend and Kyriq McDonald.

Safety will return Minkah Fitzpatrick and Ronnie Harrison as the starters, with Hootie Jones still the rotational back-up. Behind them, Deionte Thompson brings another year of experience after playing receiver as a true freshman, and Mayden or Robinson are both candidates to move from corner to safety if needed. Daniel Wright and Xavier McKinney will both be coming in June to reinforce the depth with youngsters.

It is never too soon to look forward to next season when you are an Alabama fan. Yesterday, we took an early first look at the 2017 defense. Today, it is the offense.

And why not? It's only 233 days until the Crimson Tide faces the Florida State Seminoles in Atlanta, GA.

QUARTERBACK

Leaving: Cooper Bateman and David Cornwell.

Underclassman possibly leaving for NFL: Nobody.

Returning: Jalen Hurts.

New guys:  Tua Tagovailoa (EE) and Mac Jones (4-star).

Outlook: Have you heard of this Hurts guy? He is pretty good. And don't imagine for a second that he will not work to improve his game. It will be beneficial to him to have high 4-star Tagovailoa to push him this spring. Depth is a concern with Bateman and Cornwell transferring out. This makes Jones' commitment much more important.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Leaving: Alphonse Taylor and Korren Kirven.

Underclassmen likely leaving for NFL: Cam Robinson.

Returning: Ross Pierschbacher, Jonah Williams, Bradley Bozeman, Lester Cotton, Dallas Warmack, Josh Casher, Matt Womack, Chris Owens, Deonte Brown, Scott Lashley, J.C. Hassenauer, Richie Petitbon.

New guys: Alex Leatherwood (EE), Elliot Baker (EE), Jedrick Wills (high 4-star), Kendall Randolph (4-star), and Hunter Brannon (3-star, greyshirt?).

Outlook: Nick Saban has been stealthily stockpiling a load of O-linemen. Despite the troubles this season, there should be plenty of candidates to fight for and improve this unit. Pierschbacher and Williams have likely locked down two of the starting spots, though they could be moved around. Bozeman could be pushed at center. 5-star Leatherwood and juco transfer Baker have excellent chances at being starters in 2017. Might we see some transfers at the bottom end of the depth chart?

TIGHT ENDS/H-BACKS

Leaving: O.J. Howard and Brandon Greene.

Underclassmen possibly leaving for NFL: Nobody.

Returning: Miller Forristall, Hale Hentges, Irv Smith.

New guys:  Major Tennison (4-star), Kedrick James (3-star)

Outlook: The loss of Howard really hurts. Forristall showed great promise as a blocker and receiver. Hentges has yet to really prove himself as a receiving threat. Tennison should see playing time as a frosh.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Leaving: Gehrig Dieter, potential transfers?

Underclassmen possibly leaving for NFL: ArDarius Stewart(?)

Returning: ArDarius Stewart (?), Calvin Ridley, Trevon Diggs, Cam Sims, Derek Kief, Robert Foster (?), T.J. Simmons, Raheem Falkins (?), Xavian Marks.

New guys: Jerry Jeudy (EE), Tyrell Shavers (EE), one of the following 4-stars: Devonta Smith, Henry Ruggs, or Nico Collins. Grad-transfer anyone?

Outlook: The BIG question is whether Stewart goes pro. Ridley and Diggs will be in the rotation with Sims likely seeing playing time. The rest of the receiving corps is a question mark and frankly disappointing. 5-star Jeudy will certainly help the troops. Chadarius Townsend (EE) could get a look at WR but his future likely lies as a safety.
