Will our secondary and defense really be that good/improved?

Would like to see this defense hold opponents under 200 yards a game

One thing for sure we'll know if our front 7 is elite, they will be tested heavily on the ground

I think we will improve drastically. With Mo, Marlon, and Tony finally "coming around" the sky is the limit. The only negative I personally see is a starting line up with Geno and Eddie starting on the backend. I think both players are best suited for free safety and would love to see Hootie or a "thumper" start opposite either of the two aforementioned guys.

We have every reason to be very optimistic about the defense. I can't think of a team in a better situation.

It looks like we are going to struggle at safety. Strong everywhere else.

Yeah what the shite?

Those days are long gone. Offenses have evolved too much

The days of holding offenses to under 200 total yards and under 10 points a long gone.

I said I would like to see it happen, who here wouldn't? I never said its going to happen.

While very unlikely, nothing is impossible.

The 2011 LSU defense was built perfectly to stop the HUNH offenses... Don't think we will ever fully adopt that style(due to the Arkansas's and Wisconsin's of the CFB world) but that is the one defense that would actually nullify the HUNH....

While I'd love to see it, don't think it'll happen; heck I'd be ecstatic if we could hold opponents under 300 yards...if our D allows < 300 then I think we go undefeated...

Spread teams have put up some big numbers against us the last couple of years...and to boot, the rules currently favor the HUNH teams. Last year, too many times did I see confusion in our D before the ball was snapped. And while our front 7 has the potential to be awesome, we had the same key players at the end of last year (just 'bout the same DL and Ragland at LB) and we still struggled...hopefully the experience of another year in the system will prove different this year.

I'm guessing it may be more of a schematic issue as opposed to talent. We're loaded up front, and there's plenty of raw talent in our secondary (seems like half the CBs are on the track team)...could be that, in our D, the mental aspect is far more important than the physical. Either our D is too complex for many of our players or the spread teams, at least the good ones, have figured us out...or maybe a combination of both. Hope that proves not to be the case this year.

I think inexperience last year hurt along with depth at times. Last year we got lucky our O put up the numbers we did to negate the lack of defense at times. This year we look to have more speed and the ability to play more in nickel and dime situations with our depth and experience which may help with the HUNH. We also should be able to stop the run making opposing team offenses more one dimensional and easier to handle. I can handle giving up a big play once a game a lot better than giving up 200+ yards on the ground.

I think we will see a lot more lateral speed and focus on takeaways this fall.
