A tepid program at best, has sprung into life lately. 2012 was a break through year as the Tide finally emerged from the cellar of the SEC on the back of Ed Allen's first class. The Tide narrowly missed a trip the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007. Those girls are now seniors and have logged 2 NCAA dances and the programs first ever post season win. With girls now tabbed on All-American and All-SEC watchlist, 2015 will be the first season of real expectation for Alabama Volleyball.
Alabama has been voted pre-season #2 in the SEC by the conference coaches, and will take their stab at leagues perennial juggernauts, Florida.
The Tide returns EVERY starter from a 2014 team that set the program high for wins in a season, now bolstered by experience and a new freshman class boasting immense talents for Head Coach Ed Allen's AAU connections.
Now, this is not to say that we will be world beaters. Bama still has to prove it belongs with the big girls as they have practically no historic prestige in the volleyball world, in fact their pre-season votes in the AVCA Top 25 are the first in program history. I've been using that phrase a lot which should tell you a lot.
There's a reason the only sports not named Football in Alabama that even register a blip on our overall radar are the ones that WIN. Obviously we like winners. Volleyball has never really given us a reason to care and that may be changing as the program strives to reach the heights Sarah Patterson, Pat Murphy and Jay Seawell have attained.
They're still building, but it might be worth your while, with the SEC Network giving unprecedented coverage, to see another possible championship Bama program emerge.

I'm half embarrassed to admit my mom had a title ix related volleyball coaching job at uf... No joke 4-5 days ago we were going over the schedule and I f bombed her for blowing us off as a game to go watch. I felt we'd be improved, but sec preseason #2 is surprisingly good. Glad to see somebody else here gives a hoot about a non revenue we don't have huge success in.

My fiancé and I went to a couple volleyball matches in Foster last year. They're actually pretty entertaining. I'll obviously go to more this year if we could be a legitimate top 25 team.

I went to a few when I was a freshman and sophomore. That was a while ago. I knew a girl on the team at the time. They were entertaining. And the teams were decent back then. Judy Green was the head coach then.
