Because it would never work again. As soon as the kicker goes into motion the other team's HC is going to call a time out. Petrino blamed himself for not calling one in his post game press conference.

I distinctly remember thinking McCarron was going to quick kick it. The thought might have flashed through Petrino's mind, too.
