I know none of you wanted to see it, very few of you will even watch it, but here it is in all of its glory: the 2009 Sugar Bowl game against Utah. We missed Andre Smith a lot. Wilson got sacked a season high eight times in this game. And it also didn't help our cause when Mike Johnson went down in the second or third series of the game.

This team didn't have a lot of depth especially on the OL. Then right before the game the best player on the team is suspended.
The Sugar Bowl is Saban's kryptonite.

Didn't help that Caldwell, I believe, said he was going to kill the Utah player at the coin toss. Oh and every single analyst saying Alabama will win with relative ease.

This was one of the most upsetting losses I can remember. I was pissed and stunned.

I was there. a-hole Utah fans sitting next to me. "This is the SEC? Thought they would be better." The guy must have said it a dozen times in the first half.

He's 2-3 in the Sugar Bowl. Plus the BCS title. He's won two national championships in that building. Just unlucky circumstances and bad play against some good teams in 2009, 2014, and 2015.

I wouldn't call that Oklahoma team a good team, probably the worst team Bama has lost to since 08. No way Bama should have lost to that OU team.

This game was tough to watch, but it absolutely set up the 2009 team giving them some motivation that they needed to come to play every week.

Unfortunately they forgot all about that shite in 2010.

They finished 11-2 and #6. Easily better than the 9-5 South Carolina team Alabama lost to in 2010.

Yea, but their best wins were :

#17 Oklahoma State (10-3)
#24 Notre Dame (9-4)
UR Kansas State (8-5)
UR Texas Tech (8-5)

The rest of their wins
6-6 ULM
4-8 TCU
4-8 West Virginia
3-9 Iowa State
3-9 Kansas
3-9 Tulsa

They were also HAMMERED by Texas (8-5) and Baylor (11-2).

It was not a great team.

I did not share the confidence of the media or our fans before this game. Mostly because no one was giving Utah a chance. Just before the game I went on the Rivals board and asked people to convince me that we were going to win and win handily. That first quarter performance is what I feared would happen. I hate it when my nightmares become reality.

Semantics. We lost. And it wasn't our worst loss since 2008, as the poster suggested. That was clearly the point I was trying to make. Everything else is window dressing.

I appreciate all you do, man. I've watched most of the ones you've made. But I'm not touching this one with a 10 foot pole. I was there. It was awful.

I haven't watched any of this game since that night, but as awful as it was didn't we have the ball with a chance to tie late in the 3rd, or early in the 4th? Then couldn't convert a 3rd & short? Maybe even went for it on 4th and didn't convert?

Maybe I should watch the highlights.....

I was in a Wal Mart in St. George, Utah this past March and I saw a guy with a 2009 Sugar Bowl hat on. I asked him if he was at that game, and he told me that he did indeed attend that game, and that his son-in-law played on that team.

I told him that I am a Bama grad and was in New Orleans that night too and that it was hard to witness such an arse-kicking. He chortled and said that he most enjoyed it. Csb

What's funny about this post is that a guy named Kruger played a big part in making that nightmare a reality

I paid hundreds of dollars for tickets to this game, and to top it all off I got food poisoning and spent the next morning in a New Orleans emergency room.

It wasn't a great trip.
