NICE!!

hoping he gets his mind right this offseason. Dude had all kinds of athletic ability. He might be the most talented receiver we have on the team

Practice report: LINK

Here are several tidbits from the Crimson Tide's first spring practice:

- Running back Tyren Jones and offensive lineman Grant Hill were not spotted on the practice field or on the sideline during the two media viewing periods. For more details on the missing players, click HERE.

- Cornerback Cyrus Jones and outside linebacker Denzel Devall were both wearing black, no-contact jerseys and riding stationary bikes when reporters were allowed inside the indoor facility. Devall had his left foot and ankle wrapped in what appeared to be a cast. The two defensive players were working with strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran.

- Spotted a few of position changes in defensive back Ronnie Clark (No. 5) practicing with the running backs and defensive lineman Johnny Dwight (No. 36) working with the tight ends. Both players are redshirt freshmen.

- Tight end Brandon Greene, who made a memorable catch against LSU in overtime last year, was back to working at his old position of offensive tackle. He also appeared to be wearing his old number (58).

- Jacob Coker led the quarterbacks through individual drills, followed by Alec Morris, Cooper Bateman, David Cornwell and Blake Barnett, with Lane Kiffin looking on during the two viewing periods.

- Derrick Henry led the running backs through footwork drills. Kenyan Drake was right behind him and did not appear to be limited in the least bit. Following those two were Desherrius Flowers, Bo Scarbrough and Clark.

- The first-team offensive line appeared to consist of Cameron Robinson at left tackle, obviously, Alphonse Taylor at left guard, Ryan Kelly at center, obviously, Bradley Bozeman at right guard and Dominick Jackson at right tackle.

- Sophomore Shaun Hamilton appeared to be working at Mike next to Reggie Ragland with the inside linebackers.

- Dillon Lee was working with the outside linebackers, filling a need while Devall was on the sideline with an injury.

- Eddie Jackson and Tony Brown led the cornerbacks through individual drills, with Jones on the sideline. Bradley Sylve and Marlon Humphrey were in the second group. Humphrey had his left hamstring wrapped with a support apparatus but was still moving through drills well.

*** Head coach Nick Saban will talk to the media following the team's first practice.

What we saw

-- Starting CB Cyrus Jones was wearing a black non-contact jersey riding the exercise bike with Denzel Devall. It's not clear what injury sidelined while Devall had a black cast on his left leg.

-- Running back Kenyan Drake was healthy and participating second in the running back drills. Derrick Henry, in his new No. 2, was second. DeSherrius Flowers was third and Bo Scarbrough was after that. (Take these orders with a grain of salt. It's Day 1).

-- Suspended running back Tyren Jones was not seen at the indoor practice.

-- Jacob Coker led the quarterback line followed by Alec Morris, Cooper Bateman, David Cornwell and freshman Blake Barnett.

-- With Cyrus Jones injured, Tony Brown was in the first group at corner with Eddie Jackson. Marlon Humphrey and Bradley Sylve were the second group up.

-- On the offensive line, top reserve Grant Hill was not spotted on the field.

-- Another rebuilt group was the receivers. Chris Black was first in line followed by ArDarius Stewart, Robert Foster, Cam Sims, Derrick Kief and Raheem Falkins.

-- At middle linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton was in the first group with Reggie Ragland. Reuben Foster worked on the second team.

-- Back to the offensive line, Dominick Jackson (right tackle), Bradley Bozeman (right guard) and Alphonse Taylor (left guard) were new to the first team with starters graduating.

-- Second group at offensive line included Ross Pierschbacher (right guard), J.C. Hassenauer (center).

-- Laurence "Hootie" Jones was in the first group at safety with freshman Ronnie Harrison next to him. But they were mixing and matching in that group so it's hard to read much into it.

This portion will be updated.

What comes next

Saban and a few players will meet with reporters after practice. Then, a 10-day gap between practices as Alabama students go on spring break.

Why do we keep moving Brandon Greene back to OT? We have good depth at tackle and terrible depth at TE, especially a blocking TE.

I'd like to hear more about what's going on at safety. I don't expect Harrison and Hootie to both start. Geno and Jabriel will be in there somewhere.

thats a big line, all 6'5+, 320lbs+ except kelly. If grant hill is still with the team and not gone from whatever his mystery illness is, he is of a similar size. Wondering about taylor in there, had kind of written him off when he failed to beat out leon 'false start' brown

So, get his weight down around 290 and let him push people around. I don't want to rely on a true freshmen who isn't even on campus yet. I love the idea of having essentially 6 OL on the field in heavy packages.

@marctorrence Kenyan Drake was running through with the RBs behind Derrick Henry. Hardly looked limited. Incredible recovery.
