This past week ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit expressed his displeasure for top-ranked SEC teams like No. 1 Alabama playing smaller teams like Western Carolina, calling it the “the worst thing that goes on in college football.” After Western Carolina lost to Alabama 48-14 on Saturday, WCU head coach Mark Speir tore into Herbstreit. “A guy had a silver spoon in his mouth all his life, Ohio State, prima donna state quarterback talking about, ‘It’s an embarrassment,’” “He ain’t ever coached.”
“I’m just proud of FCS football,” Speir said. “I’m proud of our football team. I hope America doesn’t listen to a guy who sits behind a mic that hasn’t ever done it with that silver spoon in his mouth. He never had probably a bloody nose or a callus like some of these guys.”
