6 witnesses 1 was treated "hostile" from what I gather Another was smoked/impeached on cross If you weren't paying attention, their witnesses could have easily been the prosecution's.
Apparently the defense attorney has heard the phrase

“When you’re in a hole quit digging”
Not much of one. I haven’t seen much of today’s witness recap, but it wasn’t going well for the defense
Texas does not have degrees of murder per se.

Capital murder has 2 penalties on conviction, death and life without parole. As Karmelo was not 18 (month shy) at the time he can’t be charged with this.

Murder - 5-99 year sentence, parole is available. Not sure on percentage of time served.

Manslaughter - 5-20 is what I’ve seen posted on guidelines there.

Those are the conviction options, will depend on the judge instructions to the jury on what they can render a verdict for.

So, that’s his policy, maybe the Memorial coach says different.
Actually it isn’t now.

From the transcript the coaches statements on cross examination

Centennial now has a policy that students need to stay under their own tent.

He admitted that if a student was asked to leave a tent, he would expect them to do so.

"Is there any reason why someone should have a knife at a track meet?" prosecutors asked him.

"No, sir," the coach replied.

1st teen called (was not present)

He said sometimes, during downtime, people find their friends. He testified that he'd spent time under other teams' tents. He also said he's been under the Memorial tent. He's never had a problem.

Prosecutors asked him during cross-examination if he would leave when another team asked him to. He said he would and admitted there was no reason to carry a knife to a track meet.

2nd teen called - The defense called a 17-year-old Memorial High School student to the stand. He said he did not want to be there and had only met with the defense lawyers for about two minutes. He was also interviewed by a detective after the stabbing. In that interview, he told police that his teammate, Eddie Parra, had called Anthony over to the tent. He said he saw them shake hands. Anthony sat down, and then the two talked.

The teen said it was Metcalf's brother, Hunter, who first called attention to Anthony. That's different than what other witnesses have stated.

It should be noted Eddie Para referenced there was a witness for the prosecution per the recap and tells a very different story. He stated when asked at one point who was in the wrong “Karmelo”

What good witnesses could the defense call?
I have no idea. They’d need multiple witnesses at the scene telling a different story to try and impeach the prosecution witnesses.

Or video contradicting the previous video plus witness testimony.

I don’t think you can bring a psychiatrist in describing his state of mind, that would open up I think prosecution getting an independent evaluation.

Absent him taking the stand which I can’t see happening I have no idea what they’re going to do.
Prosecution rested their case. Defense asked for a directed verdict which would have been grounds for a mistrial with a guilty of murder verdict, so the judge denied the request.

Defense called first witness, Centennial’s coach I believe they said. Defense asked him if he’d ask non school students to leave their tent area and he said no.

On cross examination he stated they now have a policy restricting their students to their area. Not a good decision to call him IMO by the defense.
Tomorrow I’d say.

Throw out the narrative that he can’t get justice and the family will need money to fight back in the appeal.

Get ahead of the verdict.

OK, but how is he doing jail time? If you insist on charging him with something and he's convicted, shouldn't his maximum sentence have been something like probation or a suspended sentence?
I don’t know what the sentencing guidelines are for negligent homicide. That would have been what I was thinking would be appropriate.
I thought Chauvin was overcharged, but I would have found him complicit. I’d say what he did was excessive.
Just saw jury has been selected and opening arguments are tomorrow. Key points

No black jurors
3 Educators struck
Judge rejected defense challenge
Strikes were not racially motivated

I fully expect him to be convicted given the information we have, and for cities very soft on crime to experience the consequences of being soft when there’s a handy excuse to rape and pillage.

Well that happens when the cops are ordered to not arrest a migrant unless they actually see them kill someone, and even then multiple officers have to agree on what they saw.

It won’t matter. If there is one black person on the jury, that kid is most likely getting off.
Hanging a jury isn’t getting off. Just means they try again

re: Glasses - what do you recommend?

I got a prescription pair. Cared less about the tint than their staying on my face no matter how hard I swing.

Is it affecting my reads? I can’t tell if it is, I’m usually pretty close on them
Only needs to be one point of failure really to consider.

It’s impossible to achieve peace in the Middle East absent killing about 80% of the population.

The Arab/Israeli war will end when one buries a knife in the chest of that last of the other. It will be a knife because they’ll want to see the look in their eyes knowing they’re the last. That’s how deep the hatred runs.
1 - Jack Nicklaus
2 - Tom Watson
3 - Gary Player
4 - Lee Trevino
5 - Charles Barkley
6 - Boris Becker
7 - John Newcombe
8 - Stewart Cink
9 - Ian Baker Finch
10 - Ray Floyd

Yeah it’s pretty heavily weighted to golf. 50 years of playing the game. Stewart when he was in HS, he used to play in the same local tournaments.

Barkley when he was at Leeds in HS, Becker at Newcombe’s place in Florida when he was 14. Beat me like a rented mule.

The question is how much less than that they get and how many other problems this causes in the process, like chasing earners out of state.
That would require them to

A - actually think about what they’re doing
B - believe rich people will leave

They don’t do either.

He can probably name off exactly how far he’s about to hit each of those stock shots down to a yard or two also.
Their consistency in doing it is impressive. But they hit thousands of balls to get it that way.

I can dial mine in on anything below a 6 down to a 5 yard range and hit it 7/10.

They’ll do it 95/100. That’s probably a 5-6 shot differential on each round just on that.

Not to mention their dispersion is better. Mine is pretty good up to an 8, it gets a good bit bigger up to a 3 iron and theirs stays good though at least a 5.
