Not reading 8 pages, but why the hell would FSU go there? Absolutely no geographic sense, and FSU sure didn't mind being in a crappy conference when they were elite. Got them all those top 5 finishes in a row.

Ok, I can't see the ACC dissolving like that. If anything, the Big 12 would dissolve

quote:

PAC adds Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, Texas Tech

They tried that route. Twice. Once with A&M and once without. PAC-12 presidents said no thanks.

The problem is who wants anyone in the Big 12? OU can't go anywhere without Okie Lite--and can't go anywhere with them either. Same with Texas and Texas Tech. And before you throw Kansas in (for its basketball franchise) they've got the K-State problem. The schools I mentioned make no sense but really there aren't any so the PAC may be stuck at 12 for a really long time.

In reality I agree that the ACC is not in danger of dissolving, but only if 1) the ACC loses no more than two schools and 2) such departures don't create an open wound effect similar to what Nebraska and Colorado did with the Big 12.

quote:

SEC adds VT and NCST

I don't see this happening in a stable-ACC scenario. Only if UVA and UNC look toward a B1G invite--and that would be in a dissolving-ACC scenario--do I see this happening.

quote:

ACC adds UCONN, ND, Rutgers, USF

But not in a stable-ACC where VT and NCST stay. Lose FSU and Clemson, add UConn and Rutgers. If you lose BOTH FSU and Miami only then does USF make sense. ND is most likely a B1G member if they ever join a conference.

quote:

This is where the problem comes in, the B1G has no one to add to get to 16

In a stable ACC you're right. But then again they had 11 schools for a long time so they really don't care. And if ND wanted in, they're in.

I actually think that UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake, and Virginia, GA Tech and Clemson are committed to enough to the ACC that it survives even if schools like Va Tech leave.

But VT has the political problem of needing UVA to make the first move (since UVA used its influence to get VT into the ACC).

quote:

Now the wild card is Maryland. If it leaves for the big ten then anything could happen. You figure that the big ten would love to add Maryland and Virginia.

But if they can get them, why would they not try to grab UNC and maybe Duke also? Perhaps something called the Research Triangle and a lot of $$$ flowing that way? (This is the B1G after all)

If there was some way I would want the SEC to grab up UVA and UNC, imo that would be the best combo to reach 16.

Except if they go anywhere they really would prefer the B1G. VT and NCST may not be the elite AAU members but you still get teams in Virginia and North Carolina and thus access to those media markets.

Ya I know that's why I said "if there was some way". It's plausible when you look at how many AAU schools the SEC would have if both were added.

Its simple, money. They are pissed that the ACC keeps getting shittey t.v. deals. They know that if they had come to the SEC when they had the chance they wouldn't have to be going through this. They thought that they could turn a basketball conference into a football conference.
Now Florida is blocking them from getting in, their athletic budget is suffering and their program is struggling to fight its way back to the days of glory. Sad

If FSU Joins the Big 12...
Dude, how exactly (with the talent Jimbo is "hauling") is FSU going to come up with 10 wins on a SEC schedule, when they can't even win the ACC??????

Because they were stuck in mediocrity at the end of the Bowden era they are consigned to mediocrity forever? Dead solid analysis there. I'm still waiting for Alabama to pull itself out of the mire from the Dubose-to-Shula years...

Bobby has been gone for three years. It took Saban two to become elite in an elite conference. Jumbo cannot even win a terrible conference with elite talent. He sucks.

And yes, FSU could conceivable go back to being good, but they don't have good substrate. They need a great coach, on a crappy conference, which is what they had in Bobby Bowden. For years they dominated, because they skated through an easy schedule. They won't have that in the SEC or even on the B12.

If FSU sucks so badly and has such a terrible foundation, then why is UF scared shitless to let them join?

Look at it this way: FSU would become a conference game, thus allowing Jeremy Foley to add yet another weak sister to an already embarassing annual OOC slate.

He's king daddy gator hater.

His logic is beautiful though. We get FSU in the SEC AND get to add another OOC game. Makes perfect sense to me.

Not a Gator hater, but just love to watch Gator fans perform mental gymnastics to justify two things: their opposition to FSU in the SEC and their annual OOC-crapfest.

Look, the very people that should be outraged at UF's OOC slate - the Gator fans and ticket holders - are the ones that leap to the defense of the practice. Foley is bending the Gator fans over by making them pay full freight to watch East Bumfrick Tech come into the Swamp for a ritual sacrifice and those same fans are too stupid to notice or complain.

And don't use the "we are locked into playing FSU every year OOC and UGa at a neutral site" argument. UGa has the same arrangement with GT and that hasn't stopped them from scheduling ASU, Okie St & BSU in recent years.

Always end up with a top 25 sos.

Edit: And UGA would block GT from joining. I hope you're not suggesting that they're "scared shitless" of Tech...

Have you seen your OOC schedule? FSU and Mich are roughly the same. Our other OOC games are roughly equal to yours.

I don't argue about our OOC schedule any longer. We are often near the top in SOS anyway. It's a waste of time and energy. Foley is not giving up a home game. It's just not happening. He funds other chit with that money and that's that.

Where are you getting the notion that UF is scared of FSU? That's silly.

I sit on the fence with getting them in the SEC. I don't want them to benefit from SEC money in any way. I just don't want to help them.

Having said that, they need the money I would like them to get off the tax payers payroll get some money and take their arse kickings in the SEC. They can't even win the ACC. WTH are they going to be in the SEC? UK, SC?

Crap-fest...lol - compare OOC schedules. I wish we could ditch FSU somehow to get some good road games.

You are indeed a gator hater and you know it. You never miss a chance. It's fine just admit it and move on is my motto.

Bama's OOC has not been great or even good. One good game and 3 crappy ones.

2012- Michigan, Western Kentuck, FAU, and Western Carolina
2011- Kent State, Penn State, North Texas, Georgia Southern
2010- San Jose State, Penn State, Duke, Georgia State
2009- Va Tech, FIU, North Texas, Chattanooga
2008- Clemson, Tulane, Western Kentucky, Arkansas State
2007- Western Carolina, FSU, Houston, ULM

When compared they are basically the same as UF. UF at least plays teams in state to give exposure and $ to in state teams.

I agree with you on not helping them. If they get the money they will come back stronger and throwing haymakers. I don't agree with you about them not having success in the SEC. Getting in the SEC would virtually take them back to the 90's. They would be a monster that no one wants to deal with. Having SEC swag would electrify their fan base and essentially give that team a new found pride. That would make them so so dangerous. Plus, they would be in the East, the East. They would be in Atlanta every year like Florida was in the 90's.

FSU has only been to two ACC championship games since it started in 2005. Winning only one in 2005.

Jimbo might be turning things around, but can they beat Clemson or Va Tech.

why is this surprising? That is par for the course for nearly every single major BCS FBS program. You usually only get one good OOC game, and then a few average to awful schools to fill it out.

No, they will not win the East every year. We'll be in the way in a year or two. UG is still UG. UT should be back (maybe not...lolololol), SC is the type of team that gives FSU fits.

They already get great athletes. Nothing much changes for them. It does for us though. It means we have to spend more money and I don't like that.
