Ben Affleck Apologizes for PBS Slavery Censorship: ‘I Was Embarrassed’

Beat his breast and tear his hair? Wear sack cloth and cover himself with ashes for 40 days and 40 nights? How can the man live with knowing his ancestors, 150 years ago, owned slaves? When he learned of his tainted lineage, how old was he? Do you think his parents tried to keep it a secret from him, until he was old enough to understand the horrible truth? Will he kiss Jesse Jackson's arse and apologize?

What did you do, you horrible white people, when you discovered you descended from slave owners?

I don't actually know, I'm not black. I assume you maybe have to do 20 days of mayonnaise and star trek re-runs, then 20 days of 40s and fried chicken to balance out the yang. Don't y'all have a manual or something you can consult?

Ben Affleck doesn't exactly represent white people. It's his choice to feel ashamed.

People like Scrooster on the other hand love the fact that their ancestors owned slaves, and they still wish slavery existed today.

I'm not sure how you concluded this. The guy loves black women.

scrooster has come unhinged in the past year, and it's Aggy's fault for starting it.

He hasn't been the same since we had our little State House shindig

A black kid pointed out to me at lunch in elementary school that the black kids ate sandwiches with wheat bread and mustard while U.S. white kids ate white bread with mayo. At our table, at least, he was right.

As an adult, I'm almost exclusively a wheat and mustard guy.

Nobody living today had a damn thing to do with slavery. Was it a dark period in our history...absolutely. But white people apologizing for slave owning ancestors is like black people demanding 40 acres and a mule today. shite is stupid.

Maybe one day we'll all respect each other and just live life. My generation still has some issues with it we got from our parents and grandparents, but I can say my grandkids literally dont see color. I think it will take another 50 years for racism to mostly be gone.

Go far enough back and anyone will find someone in their family tree who owned slaves. The American slave trade is what we, as Americans, always focus on, but slavery existed before recorded history on every inhabited continent. Society has, for the most part, evolved past the traditional definition of slavery but it is human nature for the strong to exploit the weak for personal gain.

Disagree. Racism is not disappearing. It is changing. It is moving from the notion of "black skin = inferior" to "black skin = thug"

My niece is 5 years old and she does not like black people. When she sees them in public, she will shy away, and it is a challenge to get her to say hi to one. This is not because her parents or grandparents or siblings or teachers have taught her to not like them. Rather, it is because the black boys in her day care class act obnoxiously and rudely, more so compared to the other kids who are not black. Why they do that, who the frick knows? Most likely because they are being raised by a single parent with an absent father who shows up from time to time to provide a horrible influence - a harsh truth for the black community at large that some wish to ignore in discussions of the challenges that black Americans face. And as long as that is the case, sadly, there will be racism.

Like it or not, sometimes, stereotypes are earned.
