Definitive ranking of SEC baseball programs historically

1. LSU- 6 national championships, 16 CWS appearances, 27 NCAA tournament appearances, 15 conference championships
I'll pay LSU baseball the highest compliment imaginable. They are the college baseball equivalent of Alabama football.
2. South Carolina- 2 national championships, 11 CWS appearances, 30 NCAA tournament appearances, 3 conference championships
For a long time, South Carolina sucked at pretty much every sport imaginable. Baseball was the one exception. They were a very good program but could never get over the hump. Finally, the Cocks broke through in 2010 by winning a championship then they won another the next year and made it to a third consecutive CWS final in 2012. With that run, they have firmly established themselves as the second best baseball program in the SEC.
3. Mississippi State- 9 CWS appearances, 34 NCAA tournament appearances, 16 conference titles
Right now, Mississippi State is where South Carolina was at five years ago. The Bulldogs have had some great players and some great teams but they've just never been able to break through and win a championship. It's too bad because no other SEC team has produced as much top-tier MLB talent.
4. Florida- 8 CWS, 38 NCAA tournament appearances, 13 conference titles
Not surprisingly, Florida excels at baseball just like they excel at other sports.
5. Missouri- 1 CWS title, 6 CWS appearances, 22 NCAA tournament appearances, 20 conference championships
Almost all of their success came before 1965 but you can't argue the results. The most impressive part about Missouri has to be their coaching stability. They've only had three baseball head coaches since 1937. That's right, 1937. Being the Missouri head baseball coach might be the cushiest job in sports.
6. Arkansas- 7 CWS appearances, 27 NCAA tournament appearances, 4 conference titles
Arkansas Razorbacks baseball is very solid and consistent but nothing spectacular so they're basically like every other Arkansas sports team.
7. Texas A&M- 5 CWS appearances, 30 NCAA tournament appearances, 19 conference titles
It seems like the Aggies inability to win big games carries over to other sports. Texas A&M only has a 2-10 record in the CWS.
8. Alabama- 5 CWS appearances, 23 NCAA tournament appearances, 14 conference titles
9. Georgia- 1 CWS title, 6 CWS appearances, 11 NCAA tournament appearances, 6 conference titles
10. Ole Miss- 5 CWS appearances, 18 NCAA tournament appearances, 7 conference titles
11. Auburn- 4 CWS appearances, 18 NCAA tournament appearances, 2 conference titles
12. Vanderbilt- 1 CWS title, 2 CWS appearances, 13 NCAA tournament appearances, 6 conference titles
People might be surprised to find Vandy ranked so low on the list but historically, their baseball program ranks near the bottom in almost every category. Kentucky is the only SEC team with fewer CWS appearances and Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky are the only SEC schools with fewer NCAA tournament appearances. The improvement in perception of Vandy's baseball program just shows how one coach really can truly make all the difference.
13. Tennessee- 4 CWS appearances, 9 NCAA tournament appearances, 3 conference titles
14. Kentucky- 6 NCAA tournament appearances, 1 conference championship
Does Kentucky care about any sport that doesn't involve bouncing a round orange ball? It sure doesn't seem like it.

Wow I'm shocked more fans don't support the team. Wow. Good history. Yah I know I know, Royals and Cardinals.

Agreed. LSU has the best history

I still can't believe that Vandy has only been 2 times to the CWS

Good info. Looks right

We've been pitiful in the CWS.
Our performances in Omaha have epitomized two and BBQ.

Actually after double checking the info, Missouri has actually only made 22 tourney appearances instead of 30. I'm going to have to move them down to #6. Still, their baseball program has been surprisingly strong historically.
Edit: Maybe not. Missouri leads Aggy in CWS titles, CWS appearances and conference titles. They probably do belong at #5.

Did they not win any conference titles while still in the ACC, I know they were independent for a while, but would of thought they had.

Alabama has the 3rd most SEC titles yet can't do better than Mitch Gaspard?
I smell another coaching search for the Tide this year.

Arkansas has more than 2 conf. championships, also Ark and A&m should be 5 and 6 with Mizzou at 7.
Other than that its a pretty good list.

Currently, yes there's no question State has the better program. Historically though Mizzou has the better program strictly because they have a national title.
To that same point....

I'd put Vandy above us.

The lotto scholarship has really put Bama baseball at a huge disadvantage. Gaspard may need to go but he is playing behind the eight ball.

I hear ya.
It's definitely time.
No excuses.

Can't argue that list. I've always wondered why UGA can't build a monster baseball program. the top youth program in the country is an hour away. We finally starting to get those kids but most find their way to GaTech. An urban campus with 4 hot girls in the entire dam school.

I no longer buy that. Ole Miss has built a very solid program in the era of lottery scholarships without the benefit of it. Alabama's issue was refusing to join the arms race in baseball facilities 15 years ago. Better late than never. Maybe the new Sewell-Thomas Stadium changes things in 2016.

How we haven't won a CWS title yet is beyond me.

Kentucky doesn't care about SEC baseball at all. We drive 45 minutes up the road and watch actual MLB baseball in Cincinnati. High school baseball in Kentucky is extremely competitive. We put out Top 10 per capita # of MLB players annually by state. We also have the Royals Single A franchise in Lexington where beer is $1. No, it's not a high priority because we have many better options for baseball here already. And frankly outside of a few if you like Ole Miss and LSU, most fans in thr SEC don't care about it either.

We as Alabama fans have been spoiled with the best football facilities in the country. The downside to that is our other sports complexes were passed over to give us that. The administration has finally seen the error of their ways but we are seriously behind the curve.
I think if Saban were to take the AD job when he retires from coaching he would correct that. He knows the benefits of having top notch facilities.

Wow, no one has ever posted on here that college baseball isn't nationally recognized because of players skipping college. We've never looked at it that way before. Thanks for sharing
Why can't good SEC baseball programs care when Kentucky packs its arena for women's basketball and clearly cares a lot about women's basketball?
Anyways, the list looks solid. I know conference tournament titles aren't that important, but I still would note LSU has 11 of them. I think Alabama has 10
