How hard is Alabama recruiting 2016 Thomaston, GA 3* SSDE David Marshall?

David Marshall is an Auburn commit, currently. Per his words, Alabama is recruiting his "extremely hard" and "getting close" to Auburn. As of now, he states he is 100% committed to Auburn, and will attend Auburn's Spring Game this Saturday to see Will Muschamp's defense. One driving force behind his supposed solid commitment to Auburn is his family, who don't want him moving "all the way to Tuscaloosa."

What are Alabama fans hearing regarding this guy?

Not much other than what he is saying.

Who knows? His idea of being heavily recruited may differ from every other prospect's.

He certainly isn't discussed much by Alabama sites or fans.

I have read Alabama plans to push, but that was awhile ago, nothing recent.

Interesting update today from 247. Per Marshall, Muschamp is telling him he won't play right away at Alabama (his "dream school") because we "recruit everyone in the country" and that he should come to Auburn where he can have the chance to start as a freshman. (Nevermind that he could have that opportunity at UA as well since we could lose Reed, Allen, Ashawn, Pettway to the draft/graduation next year)

Isn't that, in essence, telling a recruit that he isn't good enough to compete with the best?

Sounds like the kid wants Bama, but the family wants Auburn because of proximity and relationship with Muschamp. It should be interesting to see how it plays out.

I've seen this kid play several times. He can be as good as he wants to be. But, if he hasn't learned to keep the motor running on every play, he want start early anywhere he goes. On one series last year before he hurt his knee, he sacked the QB on 1st down, took 2nd and 3rd down off then blocked the punt on 4th. down. He has the potential to be great I think.

I'm assuming you read the same interview from 247 for you to make that comment. What was your interpretation of it?

You do realize the update was from the Auburn 247 site and not the Alabama one right?

I want to hear their take on the interview since I'm obviously biased, and I know they wouldn't make comments about an interview they haven't read. Joey and catcher wouldn't talk out of their asses, would they?

He may have hinted at that, but he didn't come out and say it. Will Muschamp stated "they recruit everyone in the country, and some don't play."

And then he said "come to auburn where you can have the chance to start as a freshman."

It's pretty obvious to everyone what Will Muschamp was trying to do. He was juxtaposing the lack of playing time at Alabama with the chance to start at Auburn. Frankly, if I were him I'd find it insulting because he is hinting that Marshall can't compete with everyone in the country.

Well, he can't, IMO.

That's fair, but do you think a kid who is probably the best football player at his high school wants to hear that? Probably not.

Probably not, I agree, but I suspect he will learn real quick where he stands among other superstars of his class.

Honestly, I'm so out of the loop in recruiting right now I don't even follow that closely anymore. I was always on top of it from classes 2008-2014, but it's just hard for me to get back into it.
