First, I was at the gate when the guys walked through today. I am a pretty big guy, and I was very particularly impressed with the size of Fitzgerald and Staley. Those are 2 huge QB's. The whole team looked to be in very good shape.

Defense definitely ruled the day on Saturday. They were having a lot of fun on their sidelines with their play. I thought that the pass defense was really good. I was very happy to see Cory Thomas play as well as he did. He caused a lot of havoc in the backfield and had some really good stops on run plays. It did look like the kids are "getting" Manny's philosophy. That's a good thing.

Dontavian Lee is pretty good. The Freds are really good. Dak is Dak, and I always get the feeling during a scrimmage that he is disappointed that he can't smack people on run plays. He took off running on a 3rd and 6 play. He was "touched" about 2 yards short of the first down, and the refs blew the play dead. He was not happy because he knew that he would have had the first down easily if they had had to tackle him.

Kicking game was solid on Saturday. Bell can kick the Bejesus out of the ball on punts. He was perfect on the one long FG he tried as well.

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I am excited we have a mix of speedy and brusing backs now. D Lee sounds promising. Would be fun to see Dak, Shump and Lee in the backfield at the same time. HURT Time.

Ditto. I would appreciate another one of these next weekend as well since I cannot make it.

Aeris made one really nice play on a short pass that he turned into the first TD of the scrimmage. It looked like he was going to be knocked out of bounds around the 10 or so, but he made a great move to avoid the tackle and was able to keep his balance and keep in bounds before diving into the end zone.

Gabe Myles was on crutches, so Malik played a lot. I am no coach, but I would guess he plays this fall. He seems to be putting up some pretty good numbers.

Good to hear and what you're really saying is you don't miss the 5'10" 165lbs QB from a decade ago?

I think it's safe to say is that Mullen is getting his prototypical guys he wants at the QB position now which is a blessing from the old days.

It is hard to get a full read on the QB's in these scrimmages when they aren't allowed to run the offense the way Mullen likes to run the offense. I have no doubt that Fitz and Staley will be able to tote the rock. If Staley has any foot speed at all, he is going to be a load to bring down. He is going to outweigh the LB's on the other team.

Went to the Spring game today. Fitzgerald looked really good. He would start for the bottom half of the teams in the SEC...

Dak had some really nice throws. In Dak we trust, but it is nice to have options. Fitz has come a long way since last spring.

The thing with Dak is that he gets called down at first touch when he is really good for another 3 or so yards. Having Fitz be successful probably takes a little pressure off everyone, especially Dak. I'm really pleased with our TE play as well. DL was fairly average, but we won't know too much about that group until they can really get after a QB. WR's are solid from top to bottom, not too much spectacular talent, but a very consistent, reliable group. Every other position looked OK. No glaring holes of any sort really. Would like to see the OL get after it more. They looked fairly soft today from what I saw.

Y'all's wide receivers are definitely an above-average unit in the SEC.

Wilson - 47 receptions, 680 yards, 9 TD in 2014
Ross - 30 receptions, 489 yards, 5 TD in 2014
Morrow - 17 receptions, 344 yards, 4 TD in 2014
Brown - 18 receptions, 299 yards, 2 TD in 2014

I was more referring to their performance today, but yes I agree. It's a definite strong point for our team.

I sort of disagree. De'Runnya was pretty good. He had 5 catches and almost 100 yards in 2 quarters. Fred Brown looked pretty good. That was a nice stretch he made on that one catch they didn't give him. Fred Ross is just solid. Donald Gray had a nice game. Morrow had a nice game.

Gus did well at TE. We need him to step up in that area. The other TE's didn't play very well.
