There is a Facebook page called Save the War Eagle Supper Club and a post from four hours ago says:
What's going on?

So... I'm not sure where to start or really what to say.. Basically I need this page this post EVERYTHING on here to GO VIRAL. I need people to realize what exactly is happening here.. After January 2016 this will just be a ripple in the past. No one will go find the bus and ride with everyone to drink till 5AM. There won't be a pit to listen to music and dance in. A place where many have fallen in love, met their best friend, or had the most fun at work you can have. There won't be a shot bus in town, a drunk bus, or Ziggy playing in the back anymore. There won't be a snapper dome or newspapers from 1943 tacked on another wall in Auburn. The signatures from all the bartenders written on the walls will be gone and the memory's will fade away once the new owners build whatever they think auburn needs. I don't know what to do or how to start but I do know it can't be done alone. Help save a precious tradition. Help save the oldest bar in Auburn, Al.
What's going on?

Every few years a rumor circulates that the War Eagle Supper Club is closing its doors. The rumors have always been false, until now. After 78 years of business, the War Eagle Supper Club will be closing its doors at the end of the year.
The rumor once again began circulating on Facebook last night and this morning we confirmed with owner John Brandt that the rumors are true.
"I hate to say it, but it's true this time," he said. "We plan to keep something going somewhere, but this venue is doomed. It's probably for the best. We've been fighting a losing battle out here. Between the city and the landlords and everybody else ... it's that time."
Brandt added that the building was bought a few years ago and he thought things would be fine.
"The building sold several years ago and he kept our same terms in our lease and we thought that everything was fine and the lease would be extended and basically he would have extended it, but wouldn't give us a long-term and it was going to be a lot more expensive than it is now and we just can't afford to do it," he said. "So, we're going to try to make the best of what we've got between now and then and we are going to try to relocate. It might not be The War Eagle Supper Club, but we're going to try to keep a live music venue in town."
Brandt said that New Year's eve of this year will be the last night the Supper Club is open and popular Southern rock band Telluride will perform.
"We're going to try to look for somewhere to go, but this building is it and we're going to go out with a bang," Brandt said.

If the building was up for sale a few years ago, I wonder why Brandt didn't try to buy it

Tom Haley and Greenbelt properties can rightly go ahead and kill themselves.

If the owner thinks it's time to go then it's time to go.

He's kind of getting strong armed into it. Same thing with The Vault. Rent increases are quoted at pretty ridiculous levels, Especially for supper club's location.

I'm sure you'll find another watering hole with a quirky name to listen to shitty music at

I will never have trouble finding a place with a quirky name to get drunk at while listening to shitty music.

Sounds like to me he wants a long term contract at 1980s rate.
Posted on 4/8/15 at 12:53 pm to AUCE05
No, but a buddy I know that works there said that the rates he heard were pretty astronomical. I understand increasing rates since those early contracts, but it sounded like it was much more than just a rate increase to reflect inflation and what not.
Furthering that, it is not a prime time location, which could have justified it a little more, like with The Bank Vault.

They should've thought about rent ceilings when agreeing to rent contracts.
I hate to see it go too but I know Supper Club can't be bringing that much revenue either

Supper club was dying. Only people who still go there frequently are old people in town reliving the glory days.
