did anyone else get a letter from Auburn, stating that name, address, date of birth, social security number, email address, and academic information were all available online, to anyone, since September 2014?
I really don't need my identity compromised.

yeah I got the blanket email. they said they'd send you a specific letter if your information was possibly compromised and are offering free identity/credit monitoring for 2y for those affected

Since I got a specific letter does that mean my identity was compromised?

it means you were one of the ones whose information was available, yes.
The blanket email stated
it went on to state
so if you got a letter in addition to the "AU Extra: April 3rd" email, then your information was available
The blanket email stated
quote:
Auburn is investigating a data security incident involving the exposure of personal information for certain current, former and prospective students.
it went on to state
quote:
Although there is no evidence of any actual or attempted misuse of this personal information, out of an abundance of caution we are contacting each individual whose information was involved and offering two free years of credit monitoring and identity theft protection and restoration services. If your information was among the affected records, you will soon receive a letter with helpful resources and specifics on the services available. In addition, a confidential assistance line is available at 877-237-7191.
so if you got a letter in addition to the "AU Extra: April 3rd" email, then your information was available

Don't worry bruh I have only used your info to purchase a cruise. You will be able to hold Auburn responsible for the 20K price tag since I did go first class. Thanks Patton

I've gotten a letter, but I haven't so much as visited their website or set foot on their campus let alone been enrolled.
Weird.
Weird.

I just got a letter from AU today. Might as well take the free credit monitoring.

Just freeze it, and be done.

i'm gonna laugh if this happened because Auburn hasn't put in a legit Intrusion Prevention System.
Target, Home Depot, and Sony should be making IPS and IDS an easy sale to literally every single entity that makes money or keeps anything remotely looking like a SSN, SID, or a CC number.
blows my mind.
