I think the people who smoke and end up with lung cancer shouldn't blame fate for their "disease"
As a smoker I earnestly believe that no more than 0.01% of smokers diagnosed with lung cancer over the past 40 years have feigned to blame fate for their disease. I mean seriously.

1% of the time yes. (like a real glandular problem or something else wrong with the brain to cause excess weight gain)
99% of the time no.
Spot on.
Do y'all believe alcoholism is a disease?
Literally everyone who gets to decide what a disease is do.

You can 't leave where I work and go get a truly healthy "fast" meal unless you go to the grocery store.
Exactly. And then you're looking at the salad bar.
As a society, we don't eat like we used to, nor are we as physically active. I spend way more on healthy food than I would if I just grabbed macaroni and cheese and crappy frozen pizzas.

On all ends of the food spectrum. Other than produce, anything good for you / organic / lean is gonna cost you.
Sirloin steak is the same per lb now as Ribeye.. Never thought I'd see the day.

It can be.
Some of the time its just plain ole bad luck, whether it be genetics or the environment you grew up or live in.

Let's be honest - junk food, including fast food, is easier and cheaper than eating healthy. So lower income people gravitate there because it's afforadable. It's takes a lot more money and planning to feed a family healthy food. Junk food is easy to reach for, doesn't require much thought or prep work, so it's what people grab when they're in a hurry, or feeling tired or depressed and not waning to cook.
Yep I work on the road a lot in very small towns or in the middle of nowhere and it's real hard to eat healthy when there is no place to keep food cold for more than a few hours.

It's not a disease.
But it has been proven that many people are genetically prone to obesity.
That doesn't mean they will become obese, just that it's easier for them to gain fat and harder for them to lose it.

endomorphs got the raw end of the deal. they tend to gain fat rather easily and losing fat is very difficult. but even as an endomorph you can still easily be fit if you know what you're doing.

No, it isn't a disease. It's largely the result of a wholesale cultural change. There are far too many easy calories available to a populace that doesn't value the time needed to prepare healthy meals.
Well said.
People may have a genetic predisposition to obesity, but the vast majority of fat people are fat because of what they stick down their neck's.

Not eating healthy isn't the only cause of obesity either...
So you and many say, but answer this: how can the body gain weight if it is not taking in more calories than it is putting out?
