According to VolQuest Rick Barnes (former Texas), Bryce Drew (Valpo coach and brother of Baylor coach Scott Drew) and Richard Pitino (Minnesota) are Tennessee's top 3 choices. There is believed to be mutual interest with all 3 candidates.

Tennessee is expected to pay its new coach more than it paid Donnie Tyndall, according to the report.

Barnes seems to be the most appealing of that list. Unless I'm missing something.

ehhh if that's the list I would go with Barnes, but my favorite mid major coach besides all the big names in Brad Underwood at SFA. Hopefully tenersee doesn't hire him.

Barnes was the Texas coach for 17 years and made one final four, not exactly tearing it up

Do not think you could go wrong with any of those. Barnes would still be great for the program with his proven record of stability.

You do realize that is one more than Tennessee has ever been to in their entire history? It's not like it is Duke hiring Barnes. He would be a very solid pickup for them and one of the top coaches in the SEC.

I don't know the order I would go with. I think all are decent. I would prefer Underwood over all 3 of them but at least there aren't names like Bobby Lutz on the list like last year.

I think all 3 would have a solid shot at winning at Tennessee. Barnes probably most likely to get you in the tourney regularly, the other 2 with more long term upside.

There are 13 current coaches who've coached in more than 1 Final Four. None of them are available to be hired.

Message boards make people say stupid stuff like you did. I don't hold you personally responsible.

I feel like I'm in an alternate universe right now because that's 3 very solid names. There's usually at least one name that makes me want to vomit in a VOLS coaching search.

To me Barnes is the obvious pick. UT has had some turmoil the last few years, and an older proven Barnes is ideal to come in and settle the program. He will be a consistent winner and at least maintain your recent success.

While the other may provide more upside, they are also a much bigger gamble. If they fail, considering the recent turmoil of the program, the next decade may have Vol fans longing for the days of Don Devoe.

I heard Drew interviewed with DePaul on Sunday and wanted the job, but now I'm reading they are going to re-hire Dave Leitao.

I figured Drew would be content at Valpo for a few more years, but if he was willing to take on the shitshow that is DePaul basketball, I don't doubt he is interested in the Vols.
