Thanks to all who participated in my first weekend trip thread...

Looks like I'm going to fly in to Knoxville on a Friday, spend the night there and head up to Louisville through Lexington. Gonna hit up the Bourbon Trail(shout out to belle) on the way.

I would be grateful for recommendations on the following:

1. Stuff to do on a Friday night in Knoxville.
2. Scenic route(s) up to Lexington.
3. Excellent BBQ joints along the way
4. Stuff to do in Louisville on a Saturday night.
5. Louisville Sunday brunch.

Thanks!

But, but ... don't black people do different things than white people during jaunts such as these?

You're going-up what, 75, straight shot, right?

First thing you wanna do is pull over in Johnson City, face Mecca (towards Science Hill) and bow down and pay homage to the HBC.

After that you'll head up to Lexington.

After that you'll be more at home in Louisville - there are a lot of black people there.

What?! White people do stuff like that? Damn, looks like it's the ol foot race from Compton to watts again without getting shot.

But seriously.

So how many days do you have and what time are you driving north outta Knoxville?

You may be better off hitting a couple of distilleries and stables before you get to Lexington.

He said he was going to Lexington first.

Gonna leave pretty early on Saturday morning and head to Lexington, round 8 or so. I want to go to buffalo trace and woodford, which are pretty close together. Gonna head in to Louisville that evening, spend the night and head back to Dallas on Sunday.

Eta. I'm don't plan on doing anything in Lexington, per se. It's just that both the distilleries I wanna visit are right by.

Where are you planning on staying in Louisville and what kind of night are you looking for? Bar hopping or just a nice dinner and then crash?

What kind of shite do you like to do? I'm assuming you're looking for food/drink recommendations in and around Glocksville?

Skip the bed and breakfast and splurge with a room at the 21c Museum Hotel. Skip 4th Street Live and head down to Bardstown Rd and the Highlands. Tons of bars in that area and almost always someone hosting live music too. If money isn't an issue, Proof on Main (the restaurant at the 21c) has some great dining too. Lots of restaurants in that area and a lot of local deals. All depends on your price range.

ETA: And hit up Wild Eggs the next morning before flying out. It's a local chain with a few locations around the city.

Yessir. Lol.

Food: southern, local specialty, hip, gourmand, etc.

Drink: I'm curious to see where the students hang out. Is there a group of bars close to campus? A la northgate, downtown Athens...

You are gonna be blowin' and goin' trying to get all of that done in three days while driving.

It takes me four hours to drive from Jonesburough to Lexington ... so I'm guessing easy six or seven hours from Knoxville to Lexington.

Buffalo Trace, I've been there, that's in Frankfort once you go through Lexington via the bypass and you're heading toward Lousiville ... that's doable maybe.

Woodford is in Versailles, it's a little more off the beaten path ... it's a cool tour we just did this past season. We got in special, I'm not sure but I think most tours there happen in the mornings, you may want to check that in advance. We started early that morning, we stayed in Lexington, we hit Woodford first then drove to Bardstown from there for Heaven Hill then drove back to Lexington that night. Seeing both places was an all day thing and we started in Lexington on a Friday.

Cool. Thanks Belle! Yeah, this is my spring vacay since I can't really take time off, so money is no issue.

Maps says it's only 2.5 hrs from Knoxville to Lexington. I'll call around and see how long tours are. If I can only do one, which would you recommend? I love everything from Buff Trace, but if they're not hospitable and won't give me any pappy, then I could be convinced otherwise.

Well hell ... that's right. You're going straight from Knoxville and I've naturally got Jonesburough on the brain because that's where our summer place is located.

You will not need to go that way - what the hell was I thinking.

It's still going to be one fast long day with you blowing and going hitting Woodford first then Lexington then Buffalo Trace then all the way over to Louisville ... good luck with that.

You should be able to catch your breath Sunday in Louisville.

It should be a neat quick little trip. You can always catch missed breweries and stables when you go up for a game.
